On Sunday 1st October 2017, the United States suffered its worst ever mass shooting, when at least 59 people were killed and over 500 injured, many extremely seriously, at a country music festival in Las Vegas.
The shooter, a wealthy American retiree named Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, on the famous Las Vegas Strip. After carefully preparing an arsenal of dozens of guns, including automatic rifles, he smashed out two windows, and poured fire into a crowd of 22,000 innocent people for around 9 minutes, before shooting himself dead after he was located by police.
Several members of the Energy team were nearby at the time, in town for the 2017 Global Gaming Awards, and experienced first-hand the panic and confusion that gripped the Las Vegas Strip on that horrific Sunday night. Fortunately, all members of the Energy team found refuge, along with many other frightened tourists and locals, at one of the large casinos, and were unharmed.
Our team also witnessed the selfless courage and determination of the first responders, including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Department, and numerous paramedic and medical staff, as well as federal agents, resort staff and the many ordinary Las Vegas residents who rushed to the scene, putting their own lives in danger to help the wounded.
As part of the global gambling industry, Las Vegas holds a special place for us, and the thoughts and prayers of everyone at EnergyCasino and EnergyBet, are with those affected by the tragic events of Sunday night. We know that the people who make Las Vegas what it is, will not let the actions of one deranged murderer cow them into living and working in fear.
Stand strong Las Vegas.
