A Bright New Dawn for Leyton Orient FC

At long last, things are looking up for Leyton Orient FC. So, last season was a disaster, resulting in relegation to the National League, but it looks like a phoenix may well rise from the ashes. With new owners and management, a resurgent passion and determination is now showing itself.

Perhaps nothing symbolises this more that the attitude and enthusiasm of new Vice-Chairman and Principal Investor, Texan businessman Kent Teague. In his first interview with leytonorient.com Kent explained how he felt “extremely humbled, extremely honoured” and “extremely privileged” to be a part of the club’s future.

He went on to say how he had held a lifelong dream of being involved with a football club, and how he was excited, if a little nervous, about the club’s prospects in the National League – with Orient, being the most high-profile club in the division – likely to be the focus of the twenty-three other clubs’ efforts. Certainly, Orient will have a challenge ahead, with 46 league matches to look forward to in the coming season, but with leadership brimming with energy focus – something that was sadly lacking for most of last season – there is every reason for the O’s to be optimistic.

Fellow visionary, Orient Club Chairman Nigel Travis, had apparently contacted Teague back in April, regarding being a part the consortium to purchase the club from Italian Francesco Becchetti, though Teague said he had been following the Orient saga for some time. Leyton Orient’s rich and vibrant history, being the second oldest club in London, went a long way to persuading Teague to get involved, but it seems to be the club’s incredibly loyal and down-to-earth fans who sealed the deal for him. He was particularly impressed with the way Orient fans handled the final game of last season, saying “The third, and arguably most important, attraction was the supporters level of passion and commitment. I was extremely impressed by the enthusiasm they showed for the final game of last season at Blackpool, and the way that they conducted themselves on that day.”

Teague and Travis have been working hard to get the right talent in place, especially sorting out the problems on the business side of the club, to ensure that they can focus on the football over the course of the coming season, and thus far at least, everything seems to be coming together.
