LEAGUE OF LEGENDS – WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

The stage is set, and the spotlight is on the 2020 World Championship Finals. League of Legend’s 22 best teams from 11 regions qualified for the biggest LoL tournament of the year, but only two remain standing: China’s Suning and South Korea’s DAMWON Gaming. Finals will take place at the Pudong Football Stadium in Shanghai, where thousands of fans will see the next League of Legends 2020 World Champions lift the Summoner’s Cup in triumph.

As the finalists prepare for battle in the LoL World Championship Finals on 31 October, let’s meet the teams and have a look at the betting markets for this explosive match.

2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS RECAP

Europe’s Fnatic couldn’t take the heat and dropped out of the competition in the quarter-finals, losing 3-2 to Top Esports who went on to suffer a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Suning in the semi-finals.

DAMWON Gaming made swift work of DRX in the quarter-finals, winning 3-0, and kept the streak going with a 3-1 victory against G2 Esports in the semis. JD Gaming and Gen.G both left the World Championship tournament in the quarter-finals with scores of 1-3 and 0-3, respectively.

In summary, DRX, JD Gaming, Fnatic and Gen.G now hold 5th-8th places in the World Championship, while G2 and Top Esports stand at third and fourth-place. Suning and DAMWON Gaming move on to the 2020 World Championship Finals.

MEET THE TEAMS

DAMWON GAMING

DAMWON are a professional esports team from South Korea, formed in 2017 after signing the full MiraGe Gaming roster. Unfortunately, old talent was not enough to push newcomers DAMWON to victory immediately. The team did not see their first LCK title until 5 September, in the 2020 LCK Summer Finals, after significant changes to the roster over the last three years. Led by coach Lee “Zefa” Jae-min, five outstanding laners are ready to risk it all.

ADC Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun and Support Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee – the only player who survived the MiraGe roster wipe – are heading down to BOT lane. TOP and MID lanes are entrusted to Jang “Naguri” Ha-gwon and Heo “Showmaker” Su, respectively, while Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu is left to roam the Jungle.

SUNING

Suning are a League of Legends team from China, previously known as T.Bear Gaming and Suning Gaming. The team was formed in 2016 with the aim of conquering the 2017 LSPL Spring Season. And that they did, winning the playoffs with a 3-0 sweep over Young Miracles. Suning is coached by Kwon “Helper” Yeong-jae, who previously drilled Gen.G, a South Korean team that also made it to the 2020 World Championship.

Bot lane is spearheaded by ADC Tang “huanfeng” Huanfeng and Hu “SwordArt” Shuo-Chieh as huanfeng’s Support. Chen “Bin” Zebin is taking TOP lane, and the world’s seventh-best player, Xiang “Angel” Tao is going to spread his wings once more at MID. The Jungle will be Lê “SofM” Quang Duy’s playground, the first-ever Vietnamese player to qualify for both the World Championship and the MSI Finals.

2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS FORMAT

The 2020 World Championship Finals will be played in a best-of-five format, set to begin at 11:00 CEST/BTS+1 on Saturday, 31 October. The winners of the tournament will be crowned as 2020 World Champions and receive 25% of the prize pool; they’ll also work with Riot Games to immortalise their glory with a set of unique World Champion Skins.

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS – WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS

Out of the world’s 22 best League of Legends teams, only eight remain standing. Over the next four days, each of the top eight will have one more chance to power through to the semi-finals in the 2020 World Championship Playoffs. Every move counts; one misstep and the Summoner’s Cup is out of their grasp!

Let’s see who got knocked out in the Group Stage and which teams solidified their place in the running for the champion’s crown.

2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP STAGE RECAP

In Group A, Team Liquid fought valiantly, but their 3-3 (Win-Loss) record was not enough to trump EU’s G2 Esports and China’s Suning, who finished the run at 4-2. Machi Esports did not make the cut, leaving the competition with a score of 1-5.

Group B’s DAMWON Gaming from Korea showed no mercy to their foes, sweeping the Rift with five wins and just one loss each. JD Gaming came in second at 4-2, leaving PSG Talon and Rogue trailing in the dust.

League of Legends fans from all over the world locked their eyes on the matches in Group C, where some of the strongest LoL teams staked their claim at the title of World Champions. Gen.G and Fnatic stood their ground and wowed the crowds, finishing strong at 5-1 and 4-2, respectively. Like Team Liquid in Group A, LGD Gaming were cut loose at 3-3. North America’s favourites Team SoloMid topped the charts, but not in the way their fanbase hoped. TSM left the competition with an unprecedented, crushing loss streak of 0-6. Ouch!

In an interesting turn of events, teams in Group D finished with identical standings as Group C. China’s Top Esports and Korea’s DRX moved to the playoffs with scores of 5-1 and 4-2, while NA’s Flyquest were knocked out at 3-3. Arguably the best-named team around — Unicorns of Love — ended their impressive run with a demoralising score of 0-6, keeping TSM company in their anguish.

Here is the final list of competitors for the World Championship Playoffs, sorted by region:

China: JD Gaming, Suning and Top Esports

Europe: Fnatic and G2 Esports.

Korea: DAMWON Gaming, DRX, and Gen.G Esports.

2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS FORMAT

Representing only three regions in the World Championship Playoffs, the top eight teams knuckle down to take control of their lanes and push through to the semi-finals in four best-of-five matchups.

Playoffs:

  • Single elimination bracket.
  • All matches are Bo5.
  • Winners of each match proceed to the semi-finals.

The World Championship Playoffs begin on Thursday, 15 October, with DAMWON Gaming up against compatriots DRX as the first Playoffs skirmish. The matches will run through 18 October, wrapping up the semi-finals qualifiers with Gen.G against G2 Esports. Each matchup begins at 12:00 CEST/BTS+1.

SCHEDULE

Playoffs: 15-18 October.

Semi-finals: 24-25 October.

CHOCOLATES SLOT REVIEW

The Chocolates slot is the latest, delectably good release from Big Time Gaming, the guru of innovative slots and all things chocolate!  Nestled within the lush meadows and forests of the Alpine countryside, is a whimsical, wooden cuckoo clock, filled to the brim with colourful bonbons. Twist and turn the timber gears in search of the elusive Golden Ticket and join us for the sweetest slot review on the reels of the Chocolates slot!

CHOCOLATES SLOT GAMEPLAY

The Chocolates slot is akin to many Megaways™ hits, if you were to take them down a notch for cleaner and straight-to-the-point gameplay. This 4×4 slot may seem minimalistic at first glance, but just like a box of chocolates — every spin is full of surprises and mouth watering bonus features. Players will find two Wilds, Scatters, a Free Spins bonus with Sticky Boxes and Chocolate Boxes that reveal extra symbols anytime they land. Amidst the appetising symbols is a hidden Golden Ticket, lucky players who come across this Wonka-esque voucher will enjoy the game’s only multiplier of 6x the win!

HOW TO PLAY CHOCOLATES

Playing Chocolates is as easy as taking candy from a baby (not that we condone that kind of behaviour)! Most of the symbols will look familiar (9-A) and the rest are pretty easy to figure out: four wrapped chocolates, Wilds, BTG Chocolate Boxes and a blue clock piece with golden handles as the game’s Scatter. Just like in Megaways™ slots, there are no fixed paylines in Chocolates. In the base game, there are 256 ways to win, the number of which rises exponentially anytime Chocolate Boxes appear on the reels. Theoretically, the base game can go up to 2,401 ways to win, and the Free Spins bonus may reach 65,536 with its Sticky Boxes. All wins pay from left to right except for Scatter wins, which pay on any. To get started simply set your preferred wager and spin away, but before you do, have a look at the game’s dandy features below, they will definitely come in candy!

CHOCOLATES SLOT FEATURES

Wild Symbols — there are two Wild symbols in the game, the regular Wild and the Golden Ticket Wild. Both Wilds can only appear on the second or fourth reels and will substitute for all other symbols except for the Scatter and Chocolate Box symbols. Lucky players who find the Golden Ticket will enjoy a 6x multiplier on a win where the Golden Ticket Wild substituted for another symbol.

Chocolate Boxes — appear as yellow boxes with the BTG logo. These boxes can reveal up to four symbols, and each revealed chocolate will add to the number of symbols on that reel (and increases the number of ways to win). All boxes in one spin will reveal the same type of chocolate.

Chocolates Free Spins — landing three or four Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels will award seven or 10 Free Spins, respectively. During the Chocolates Free Spins bonus, all Chocolate Boxes become Sticky Boxes. Scatter symbols will not appear in this bonus round.

Sticky Boxes — any Chocolate Box that appears during the Free Spins bonus turns into a Sticky Box and will hold its position on the reel for the duration of the bonus. Landing four Sticky Boxes on one reel will award an additional three Free Spins. Sweet!

THE VERDICT

Big Time Gaming always seems to know how to satisfy a craving! The barrage of experimental Megaways™ titles can get tiring, so it’s nice to hitch a ride back to the classic BTG gameplay every once in a while. With a savoury Free Spins bonus and plenty of Wilds, Chocolates delivers scrumptious gameplay and equally appetising payouts. We think that this quaint little slot is definitely worth a spin! It’s not nearly as volatile as its Megaways™ buddies and has a perfectly sweet RTP of 96.60%.

Head over to EnergyCasino and whet your appetite for Chocolates, a brand-new game full of confectionery goodness that is sure to appease your sweet tooth!

ROYAL MINT MEGAWAYS SLOT

Break into the Royal Mint in Big Time Gaming’s minty-fresh release: the Royal Mint Megaways slot! This brand-new game combines the fan-favourite mechanics from hits like Bonanza and Lil Devil to bring you another hot title built on the coined Megaways™ engine. The Royal Mint slot features up to 117,649 ways to win, a Free Spins bonus round with an unlimited Win Multiplier, triple reactions and a Heartstopper™ Enhanced Free Spins bonus.  Let’s have a look at what BTG has in store for you in Royal Mint and see if you can M-I-N-T enough coins to unlock the bonus rounds!

ROYAL MINT SLOT GAMEPLAY

The Royal Mint slot gameplay is similar to other Megaways™ blockbusters, built with the DNA of Bonanza and Lil Devil in particular. The Royal Mint Megaways™ slot features familiar Wild and Scatter mechanics as well as the new Heartstopper™ progressive collection. Falling short of a bonus has never felt so good! Anytime players land three Scatters (when four are needed to activate the Free Spins bonus), one Gold Bar is stashed away on the collection meters to the left and right of the reels. Gather 40 Gold Bars and you’re in for a booster — each spin will include one guaranteed Scatter symbol until a bonus is triggered.

HOW TO PLAY ROYAL MINT MEGAWAYS

The game features 10 vibrant symbols, excluding the Wild and Scatters: 9, 10, J, Q, K, A and four precious gemstones in green, blue, red and purple. Wins are awarded from left to right on adjacent symbols, with payouts multiplied by the stake. The reels can feature from two to seven symbols, for a whopping maximum of 117,649 Megaways™ to win. When you’re ready to breach the gates of the Royal Mint, have a look at the game’s special features below and have fun!

ROYAL MINT SLOT FEATURES

Reactions (Cascading Reels) — every winning combination of symbols will be replaced with new symbols from above, creating new opportunities to secure a win.

Triple Reaction — the Royal Mint slot features two extra reels above and below reels two, three, four and five. If symbols on these extra reels are a part of a winning reaction, they will also be replaced by new symbols (this time, from right to left).

Megaways™ — each reel in Royal Mint, alone or with the extra reels, can have up to seven symbols. A spin where all reels have seven symbols equates to a massive 117,649 ways to win.

Wild Symbol — the game’s Wild can only appear on the extra reels. The symbol will substitute for all other symbols except for the Scatter.

Free Spins Bonus — land four Scatter symbols (M-I-N-T) to win 12 Free Spins. An extra Scatter (+4 symbol) will top your spins with four more. During this bonus, the Scatter symbol (now a stack of gold bars) will only appear on the extra reels. Landing three Scatters during the bonus will add four Free Spins to the original 12, and a fourth will add another four.

Unlimited Win Multiplier — during the Royal Mint Free Spins bonus, a Win Multiplier of 1x is activated and will increase by one on every consecutive reaction.

Heartstopper™ Enhanced Free Spins — landing three Scatter symbols will award one Gold Bar, which will stack on the two progress bars to the left and right of the reels. At 40 Gold Bars, an extra Scatter will be added to every spin until the next bonus triggers. If four or more Scatters land in any position, the Heartstopper™ Enhanced Free Spins will be awarded.

Enhanced Unlimited Win Multiplier— during the Heartstopper™ Enhanced Free Spins bonus, the Win Multiplier starts at 2x and will increase by two for every consecutive reaction.

THE VERDICT

BTG never fails to impress! Yet another Megaways™ hit is rocking our portfolio with minty gameplay and bonus features fit for royalty. We are happy to see the reappearance of the Heartstopper™ mechanic in the Royal Mint Megaways slot, a feature we and all BTG fans loved in Lil Devil. As with most other Megaways™ slots, Royal Mint also leans towards higher volatility but backs it up with a decent RTP of 96.48%.*

Head over to EnergyCasino and let’s get on with minting heaps of gold in the Royal Mint slot!

REACTOONZ 2 SLOT

Watch out! Our favourite blobby extraterrestrials are making a comeback in Reactoonz 2, Play’n GO’s latest extraterrific grid slot. As a successor to the ever-popular Reactoonz, the Reactoonz 2 slot is packing an energised punch of new features on top of what we loved most about the original: an abundance of explosive Wilds and stellar cluster wins!

REACTOONZ 2 SLOT GAMEPLAY

Overall, Reactoonz 2 gameplay stays faithful to its predecessor. You’ll find familiar alien symbols, cascading reels and charging mechanics. This time around, the Reactoonz 2 slot features TWO awesome charge meters: the Fluctometer and the Quantumeter. The meters work in tandem to harness as much energy as possible to unleash a massive blast of Wilds, culminating in the release of the one-and-only, colossal Gargantoon. Let’s have a look at what shenanigans these googly-eyed aliens are up to, and what other changes you’ll encounter in Reactoonz 2.

HOW TO PLAY REACTOONZ 2

Reactoonz 2 is a 7×7 grid slot with eight colourful symbols, cascading reels and a max win of 5,083x the wager. Wins are achieved for clusters of five or more matching symbols, which must touch vertically or horizontally. There are two types of symbols in Reactoonz 2: one-eyed and two-eyed alien blobs. Two-eyed aliens are, for glaringly obvious reasons, vastly superior to their one-eyed counterparts and offer significantly higher payouts. On top of piles and piles of aliens, there are plenty of Wilds to go around and help you boost those wins. Let’s have an in-depth look into outer space and at the game’s features, there’s a lot to unpack!

REACTOONZ 2 SLOT FEATURES

Cascading Reels — every winning cluster of symbols will be replaced with new symbols, for an extra chance to create more winning reactions.

Fluctuating Symbols — at the start of every spin, a random one-eyed alien is selected as the Fluctuating symbol (displayed in the top-right corner). Winning clusters of Fluctuating symbols will charge the Fluctometer. If Fluctuating symbols win, an Electric Wild will appear on any spot where symbols were removed.

Fluctometer — the Fluctometer holds 11 charges and randomly creates one, two or three Electric Wilds when filled. The Fluctometer is rechargeable, will fill up as long as winning clusters of Fluctuating symbols appear and resets on a losing spin.

Quantumeter — is charged with Electric Wilds. Partially filling the meter will unleash Energoon Wilds and a full charge unleashes the Gargantoon Wild. Non-Wild symbols removed by an Electric Wild will also charge the Quantumeter.

The Quantumeter has four levels and holds up to a total of 135 charges. Collect 55 charges for level one, 85 for level two, 110 for level three and all 135 for level four. If the Quantumeter does not reach level three, it drops Energoon Wilds onto the grid. If the Quantumeter reaches level three, it will unchain the gargantuan Gargantoon Wild. Releasing the Gargantoon disables both meters, and no additional charges can be gained.

Electric Wilds — substitutes for all other symbols and can be created by winning with Fluctuating symbols, filling the Fluctometer or charging Uncharged Wilds. Electric Wilds zap other symbols on the grid, triggering massive cascades.

Uncharged Wilds — can randomly appear on any cascade. They do not form wins but can be transformed into Electric Wilds when horizontally or vertically adjacent to winning symbols, or when the Wild Pair Explosion feature triggers.

Energoon Wilds — Energoon Wilds substitute for all other symbols and can only appear if the Quantumeter reaches levels one and two. Level one creates four 1×1 Energoons at the cost of 55 charges, and level two will unleash one 2×2 Energoon at the cost of 30 charges. The Quantumeter will continue to charge after Energoon Wilds have been released.

Gargantoon Wilds — substitute for all other symbols and can only appear when the Quantumeter surpasses level three. Reaching this level will shoot out a monstrous 3×3 Gargantoon Wild, which breaks down into smaller Gargantoons on winning cascades. The first win will splice it into two 2×2 Gargantoons, and the next winning cluster will shatter them into nine 1×1 Gargantoons.

Quantumeter Multiplier — reaching level four on the Quantumeter is what you’re looking for if you’re in it to win it. This level will add a 2x multiplier for all wins that include Gargantuan Wilds, but only a single 2x multiplier is used for each winning cluster.

Wild Pair Explosion — activates when other bonus features conclude and there are two or more Electric Wilds remaining on the grid. If there are two adjacent Electric Wilds, all other symbols except the Wilds are removed. If there are non-adjacent Electric Wilds, symbols in between them and those surrounding the Wilds will disappear.

THE VERDICT

Phew! The aliens are definitely over prepared for world domination. If you can wrap your head around all the features — perhaps you have what it takes to harness their precious energy. At first glance, the wide-eyed outsiders seem to have made it extra challenging to charge the meters this time around. Fortunately, it is just a masterfully crafted illusion! Once you get a chain reaction to pop off, the meters will fill up in the blink of an eye (or two). All in all, we love Reactoonz 2 — Play’n GO continue to amaze us with innovative features, engaging gameplay and polished visuals.

Head over to EnergyCasino and let’s get on with sorting extraterrestrial life forms in Reactoonz 2!

STAR CLUSTERS MEGACLUSTERS

Reach for the stars and clear the grid for a chance at stellar wins in BTG’s latest hit: Star Clusters Megaclusters! This brand-new hybrid slot is bringing a cache of precious gemstones, multipliers, free spins and jaw-dropping cluster play to your screens at EnergyCasino. Fire up the engines and get ready for takeoff, we’re going after the massive 23,000x win!

STAR CLUSTERS MEGACLUSTERS SLOT GAMEPLAY

With the release of Star Clusters comes the premiere of Big Time Gaming’s Megaclusters™  mechanic, an intriguing blend of grid-based gameplay and the Megaways™ engine. Star Clusters is the first grid slot released by the cutting-edge provider, featuring a 4×4 layout with the potential to expand to 64 symbols during the base game and up to 256 in the Free Spins bonus. The objective is to land as many identical symbols as possible, so long as they connect vertically or horizontally!

Symbols in each gem-shattering combo will be replaced by new symbols, much like Bonanza’s Cascading Reels — but with a hot twist! If you’re lucky enough to hit a win, the Megaclusters™ comes into play and replaces each symbol with FOUR more. On top of that, you can look forward to two Wild symbols, multipliers and a Free Spins round with a larger grid and out-of-this-world payouts.

HOW TO PLAY STAR CLUSTERS MEGACLUSTERS

Star Clusters Megaclusters™ is a jewel-themed slot with a 4×4 grid in the base game and 8×8 in the Free Spins bonus. Wins are paid out for clusters of five or more matching symbols, which must fall and connect to each other vertically or horizontally. The game offers a minimum buy-in of €0.20 (or currency equivalent) and a maximum win cap of 23,000x your wager. The Star Clusters Megaclusters™ RTP is 96.54%, and much like all Megaways™ games from BTG, it also sits at the higher end of the volatility spectrum.

So, what are Megaclusters™, and how do they work? Every spin starts off on a 4×4 grid with 16 symbols. If you land a win, each symbol in the winning combo will be replaced by four smaller symbols. These symbols function like the Cascading Reels mechanic, drop down randomly and can include Wilds. Clearing the grid in a series of wins can lead to the base game symbol cap of 64, and with it some cosmic wins! These reactions will continue until no new winning clusters are formed. Keep in mind that each symbol (of the original 16) can only split once! Subsequent clusters will be replaced by symbols of the same size.

You can boost your wins with the help of two transcendent Wilds, one of which packs a progressive multiplier. Let’s have a look at the game’s core features and find out how you can get your hands on some free spins!

STAR CLUSTERS MEGACLUSTERS FEATURES

Megaclusters — the Megaclusters™ mechanic is the Megaways™ equivalent for grid slots, with a little something extra! Each symbol in a winning combination will be replaced by FOUR new, randomly selected symbols. This feature can expand the base grid to 64 symbols and the Star Clusters Free Spins grid up to 256. Megaclusters™ will keep popping as long as winning clusters are formed, and will reset to the base 4×4 on a losing spin.

Rainbow Wild Symbol — the Rainbow Wild is the game’s regular Wild. It will substitute for any other symbol in a winning cluster, except for the Gold Wild.

Gold Wild Symbol — the Gold Wild will also substitute for all other symbols but falls down with a multiplier. The Gold Wild Multiplier starts at 1x, and increases by one when one or more Gold Wilds substitute for another symbol in a winning cluster.

Star Clusters Free Spins — if you shatter at least five winning clusters in a row, you will be awarded two free spins! The number of awarded free spins will be increased by one for every winning cluster after the first five. If the Gold Wild Multiplier is active on the triggering spin, the multiplier will carry over to the Free Spins bonus. Should the multiplier reach 10x during the bonus, an additional two free spins will be awarded.

THE VERDICT

When it comes to innovative gameplay and fantastic rewards, BTG is always at the forefront of the industry, breaking new ground with every step. Star Clusters Megaways™ is the latest, cutting-edge addition to Big Time Gaming’s out-of-this-world portfolio of casino slot games. LEAGUE OF LEGENDS 2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

It all comes down to this. The crowning League of Legends event of the year — the 2020 World Championship — is about to take off! The 22 best LoL teams from all regions meet at the Pudong Football Stadium in Shanghai, China to reach the summit of pro play and raise the Summoner’s Cup in victory. The event spans an entire month, beginning on 25 September and concluding in an explosive finale on 31 October. Our favourite LoL teams spent the year battling for a handful of qualifiers into the World Championship, let’s see who made the final cut!

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFICATIONS

Due to the current state of world affairs, and the cancellation of several major LoL events, the seeding format saw a handful of changes across the regions. In Europe and North America, qualifiers were up for grabs solely in the LCS and LEC Summer Playoffs. After the shutdown of this year’s Mid-Season Invitational, both Europe and China received one extra seed for a total of four. The seeds for PCS (SE Asia) were reduced to two, as opposed to last year’s four seeds after the merger between LMS (Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau) and PCS. The two ‘extra’ seeds from last year’s LMS and PCS merger are the ones handed over to Europe and China this year. VCS (Vietnam) is out of the running due to travel restrictions, handing over their Main Event spot to Korea’s third seed.

WHO MADE IT?

China: Top Esports, JD Gaming, Suning and LGD Gaming.

Europe: G2 Esports, Fnatic, Rogue and MAD Lions.

North America: Team SoloMid, FlyQuest and Team Liquid.

Southeast Asia: Machi Esports and PSG Talon.

South Korea: DAMWON Gaming, DRX and Gen.G Esports.

Other regions: INTZ (Brazil), Unicorns of Love (CIS), V3 Esports (Japan), Rainbow7 (Latam), Legacy Esports (Oceania) and Papara SuperMassive (Turkey).

2020 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

The 2020 World Championship is split into two major stages: Play-In and the Group Stage (Main Event), with the Play-In broken further down into two rounds. Only the teams who qualified for the Group Stage are competing for the ultimate prize, those who were seeded into Play-In have yet to prove their worth!

Play-In Round One:

  • Two groups of five teams play in a Single Round Robin format.
  • All matches are Bo1.
  • Top teams advance to the Group Stage.
  • The second, third and fourth in each group advance to Round Two.
  • The last team in each group is eliminated.

Play-In Round Two:

  • Only six teams from the original 10 make it to Round Two, retaining the two groups.
  • All matches are Bo5.
  • The third and fourth-placed teams from the same group in Round One will face one another. The winner then competes against the second-placed team from the other group.
  • Two winners advance to the Group Stage.
  • The four losing teams will be eliminated.

Group Stage — Main Event:

  • The four teams from the Play-In stage will join the 12 direct seeds in the Main Event.
  • All 16 teams are divided into four groups, based on seeding, and play Double Round Robin.
  • All matches are Bo1.
  • The top two teams in each group advance to the Playoffs.
  • The bottom two teams in each group are eliminated.

Playoffs:

  • Single elimination bracket.
  • All matches are Bo5.

Round One is kicking off on 25 September with PSG Talon vs Rainbow7 as the first match of the Play-In stage. Followed by INTZ e-Sports vs Legacy eSports, LGD Gaming vs PSG Talon and MAD Lions vs Team Liquid. The Play-In stretches for another three arduous days of back-to-back skirmishes. Round Two will begin on Tuesday, 29 September, after all Round One matches have been played.

SCHEDULE

Play-In Round One: 25-28 September.

Play-In Round Two: 29-30 September.

Group Stage: 3-6 October and 8-11 October.

Playoffs: 15-18 October and 24-25 October.

Finals: 31 October.

ESL ONE: COLOGNE PLAYOFFS

When it comes to competitive Counter-Strike in 2020, all roads have led us to Cologne! The world’s best CS:GO teams fought tooth and nail to ascend the ESL Pro Tour rankings and secured their spot at one of the two 2020 Masters Championships, ESL One: Cologne.

The Group Stage is now behind us and we’re heading straight for the action in this week’s preview of ESL One: Cologne Playoffs. Let’s have a look at the 32 teams in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania as they stake their claim at the hefty prize purse!

ESL ONE: COLOGNE FORMAT

As this year’s global competitions are off-limits, the current format resulted in a separation of teams into regions and divisions of unequal strength. Since the performance of the teams cannot be accessed and compared reliably, the 32 bands of warriors competed in four individual tournaments across four regions. Seeding was determined by the number of points obtained in the ESL Pro League, ESL One: Road to Rio and DreamHack Masters Spring

In the European and North American divisions, the Playoffs will be played in a single-elimination bracket. All matches are best-of-three, excluding the Grand Final best-of-five. This format is identical to the one in Asia and Oceania, with one minor difference: the upper-bracket team will be heading into the Grand Final with one map advantage.

ESL ONE: COLOGNE RECAP

Europe

Europe’s 16 top CS:GO teams made it to Cologne, but only eight remain standing. In Group A, Sprout, Complexity, OG and Ninjas in Pyjamas saw no obstacle too large to overcome. All four teams swept through the opposing BIG, Mad Lions, Natus Vincere and mousesports, respectively. In Group B, Astralis, G2 Esports, Heroic and Team Vitality triumphed over Team Heretics, Faze Clan, MIBR and fan-favourites Fnatic.

Remaining Teams: Astralis, Complexity Gaming, G2 Esports, Heroic, OG, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Sprout and Team Vitality.

Prize Pool: $325,000

North America

With only eight competing teams, the NA Group Stage wrapped up rather quickly. Group A’s Chaos Esports Club and Furia Esports pushed out 100 Thieves and Gen.G Esports, while Group B’s Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid downright shoved Cloud9 and Triumph back to the bench.

Remaining Teams: Chaos Esports Club, Evil Geniuses, Furia Esports and Team Liquid.

Prize Pool: $135,000

Asia

The four teams in the Asian division are gunning for the finals as we write. Tyloo and ViCi Gaming emerged victorious in the first two rounds, shortly after which Tyloo stomped ViCi in a 2-1. Beyond Esports and Invictus are due to clash on 28 August in a last-ditch effort for the Grand Final.

Remaining Teams: Beyond Esports, Invictus Gaming, TYLOO, and ViCi Gaming.

Prize Pool: $20,000

Oceania

Oceania’s top four have their eyes on the prize! Renegades are in the lead over ORDER, with Chiefs ESC and Avant Gaming scheduled for an early-morning match on 28 August. The winner of this matchup will go up against the upper-bracket loser. Although results are still up in the air, it looks like Renegades won’t leave ESL One: Cologne anytime soon.

Remaining Teams: Avant Gaming, Chiefs ESC, ORDER, and Renegades.

Prize Pool: $20,000

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BETTING

Paris Saint-Germain

Having fulfilled all of their domestic obligations, Paris Saint-Germain enter the Champions League Final with the monumental possibility of securing their fourth trophy of the season.

Although a convincing 3-0 scoreline against RB Leipzig earlier this week helped secure their spot in the UCL final, the competition has by no means been an easy undertaking for PSG.

After topping a group that included Real Madrid, Club Brugge and Galatasaray, the Parisians left their first round of 16 game wounded, suffering their first defeat (2-1) at the hands of Dortmund. From then on it was victory after victory for Tuchel’s men. Goals from Neymar and Velasco saw PSG past their German opposition, while Marquinhos and Choupo-Moting both left it late to overturn a 1-0 loss against Atalanta in the quarter-finals.

Against Bayern Munich, PSG will undoubtedly rely on their frightening attacking force of Neymar at 7/5 (2.40) to score anytime, Kylian Mbappé at 11/10 (2.10), and Angel Di Maria at 11/4 (3.75), to launch deadly counter-attacks through their incredible speed and sensational skills. At the other end of the pitch, Thiago Silva will captain the squad and once again lead the defence, in what could be the Brazilian’s last game with the French champions.

Bayern Munich

It’s been nothing but handing out thrashings for the German champions in a run that has positioned them to fight for their sixth UEFA Champions League trophy.

After smashing through the group stages with a perfect 6-0-0 record against Tottenham, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade, Bayern Munich easily brushed aside Chelsea in the round of 16, before completely dismantling Barcelona in a historic 8-2 victory. A convincing 3-0 win in the semi-finals earlier this week ended the Lyon fairytale run and gave the Bavarians their well-deserved entry into the final.

The German machine certainly looks capable of overpowering any opposition they face, and everything seems set for Robert Lewandowski to complete a fantastic record of scoring in every single match during the tournament. The chances of FC Bayern’s talismanic Polish striker getting on the score sheet are calculated at 4/7 (1.57).

Although the German champions are backed by an imperious record of 28 unbeaten games, PSG will present a threat. With the two most expensive signings in world football leading the line, the threat of goals from PSG is real. FC Bayern will need to be disciplined at the back to avoid a goal fest that could see the final run away from them.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN VS BAYERN MUNICH: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

Bayern Munich come out as favourites at 10/9 (2.11) to win, within the 90 minutes, while Paris Saint-Germain measure up at 11/5 (3.20). With both teams fielding some of the best attacking talent on the planet, why not wager on total goals over 3.5 at 19/20 (1.95)?

LEC 2020 SUMMER PLAYOFFS

Last week, we covered the explosive start to the LCS Summer Playoffs in North America; this week, we’re heading to Europe! EU’s 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs are just around the corner, with the first match set to kick off on Friday, 21 August. Europe’s top six teams will clash on the Rift in a bid for one of four World Championship qualifiers. Let’s see where we stand so far, and when you can expect you see your LEC favourites in action!

SUMMER SEASON RECAP

In Europe, we saw the best of the best compete in a round-robin group stage, hoping to seize one of the seeds into the 2020 LEC Summer Playoffs. Out of 10 outstanding teams, six pushed through and showed us what they’re capable of.

This season, Rogue skyrocketed to the very top of the standings (ending at 13-5 W-L) and pushed MAD Lions Madrid (12-6) down to second place, both moving on to the playoffs in the winners’ bracket. Just below, G2 Esports finished strong in third place (11-7). Fnatic and SK Gaming tied at 9-9, but FNC’s Championship Points total bumped Mithy’s roster up to fourth and SK down to fifth.

In sixth place (at least) we expected to see none other than Origen. Boy, were we in for a surprise! Just this Spring, Origen stormed the lanes and soared to third place (13-5). Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. With defeat after defeat, we saw xPeke’s Origen sink through the ranks and leave the competition in tenth place (6-12).

The sixth seed went to FC Schalke 04, who ended the season at 8-10. To say that the team had a rough start would be an understatement. The first matches of the Spring Split crushed their spirit in a streak of four losses, followed by Forg1ven’s departure and inevitable roster changes. It seems like it paid off though, as Schalke 04 confidently claimed sixth, and don’t look like they’re about to back down!

Excel Esports, Misfits Gaming and Team Vitality did not pull through and concluded the season in seventh, eighth and ninth places respectively.

LEC 2020 SUMMER PLAYOFFS FORMAT

The LEC Summer Playoffs will span three rounds and conclude in the semi-finals and finals, anticipated to take place in early September. Unlike previous seasons, seeding is determined by the number of obtained Championship Points, awarded for performance during the Summer Season.

  • All matches are best of five.
  • The top four teams play in the winners bracket, fifth clashes with sixth in the losers bracket.
  • Double elimination bracket, where the first seed picks between third and fourth seed in Round One.
  • The loser with the lowest seed from the winners bracket will play in the losers bracket in Round Two.
  • The loser with the highest seed from winners’ bracket will play in the losers bracket in Round Three.
  • Top four qualify for 2020 Season World Championship.

Round One is going live on 21 August, with SK Gaming vs FC Schalke 04 as the first match of the playoffs. The winner of the match will sit in the losers bracket, awaiting the lower R1 seed of the weekend’s winners bracket skirmishes.

As the first seed, Rogue opted to face Fnatic on Sunday, leaving MAD Lions to go up against the formidable G2 Esports on Saturday, 22 August. The losers will be sorted by seed ranking and will drop down to the losers bracket in R2 and R3. The winners, on the other hand, are on a highway straight to the semi-finals.

LEC 2020 SUMMER PLAYOFFS SCHEDULE

Round One: 21-23 August.

Round Two: 28 August.

Round Three: 29 August.

Semifinals: TBD, anticipated between 30 August and 5 September.

Finals: 6 September.

LEC 2020 SUMMER PLAYOFFS BETTING

FC Schalke 04 are favourites to win, at 4/9 (1.44), in their first Summer LEC Playoffs bout with SK Gaming, at 7/4 (2.75) to overwhelm their opponent.

On Saturday, G2 Esports stand at 4/11 (1.36) to topple Mad Lions Madrid, who are at 21/10 (3.10) to roar in triumph. The second match in the winners bracket will see Rogue at 7/9 (1.78) to push through to the semi-finals, but they may have found a worthy adversary in Fnatic, who are at 34/33 (2.03) to prove their worth.
