The O’s are under serious pressure to get a result against promotion chasing Carlisle United, on a day where the other four sides in the bottom five of League Two are playing against each other.
After slipping into the relegation zone with a 2-0 defeat at Mansfield last weekend, Andy Edwards has resigned as manager to take up a youth coaching job with the Football Association. The 33-year-old Danny Webb has become the club’s 10th manager since the summer of 2014 by taking charge at Brisbane Road until the end of the season.
His job remit will be to arrest an alarming slide towards relegation from the Football League. The O’s have lost the last four league matches, scoring just two goals in the process, and are likely to go into the match with Carlisle on Saturday afternoon without top goalscorer Paul McCallum.
Fortunately, third placed Carlisle have hit a bit of a wall since going two points off top spot with a 3-2 win at Notts County on New Year’s Eve. They have lost two and drawn three of their last five matches to fall 12 points behind the league leaders Doncaster Rovers. However, despite their recent run of poor form, they are still the second top scorers in the division with 49 goals from 28 matches.
With 22nd placed Cheltenham Town at home against bottom club Newport County, a draw might not be enough to take us out of the bottom two. Yet, given our recent struggles and the impromptu change of manager, the O’s faithful would be happy with a point against the league’s draw specialists.
Keith Curle’s side have drawn 13 league matches, including 8 out of 14 on the road, which suggests there is value in EnergyBet’s price of 3.45 for the draw. For those who want to take the next step and back a correct score draw, Carlisle have scored exactly one goal in their last five matches.
