Millwall will play their first Championship away match on Saturday as they travel up to Lancashire looking to put their opening match to rest last Saturday after suffering the indignation of letting a comfortable lead disappear in the dying moments.
Kick off time at Ewood Park is 15:00 UK time (16:00 Malta time and CET) as both Blackburn and Millwall go into the match both looking for their first win of the season.
Last Saturday on the opening day of the season Millwall let a decisive 2-0 lead fade away in the dying minutes as Middlesbrough somehow managed to dig themselves out of a hole and salvage a remarkable 2-2 draw.
Things had started so well for the Lions in the seasons curtain raiser and it looked like possible revenge for the Lions due to the away team ending Millwall’s chances of a play off spot last season.
Middlesbrough started sweetly and had a couple of half chances in the opening ten minutes, however the opening goal came at the other end with just over 11 minutes played when a low cross was whipped over from the Millwall right and Aiden O’Brien cracked home from close range to give the Lions an early lead.
With Boro still under pressure, the Lions strove to ram home their advantage and Jake Cooper wasn’t far off target with a powerful header when meeting a left-wing corner.
It got better for Millwall with 36 minutes played when Aden Flint underpowered a back header, Lee Gregory intercepted and at the second attempt, keeper Darren Randolph having stopped the first effort, tapped in from close range to notch his first of the season.
So at the Den Millwall were 2-0 up at half time and anybody taking my half time betting tip of leading 2-0 at the halfway point would now be €69.00 better off.
A lively first half had the fans of both teams on their feet in a season-opener that was played under a baking sun.
Millwall came out for the second half looking for a third and when Lee Gregory and Steve Morrison combined to miss a sitter, Boro manager Tony Pulis had seen enough and brought on the cavalry from the bench.
It worked as Boro finally found a way through with three minutes of normal time remaining when a deep cross from Wing caused problems deep in the Millwall box. Tavernier pounced and pulled a short ball back to Martin Braithwaite who tucked in from close range.
With just over six minutes of added on time played a long throw from Shotton wasn’t cleared and in a scramble at the back post George Friend stretched to turn in the equaliser to shatter Millwall’s day.
Blackburn also started their season off in similar style with a 2-2 draw away at Ipswich Town where the home team also equalised in stoppage time.
Rovers fell behind early on when Gwion Edwards headed in Freddie Sears’ cross. But Danny Graham poked in the equaliser after Ipswich failed to clear a free-kick, before Bradley Dack slotted home from Derrick Williams’ pass. Blackburn were the better team on the afternoon but just like Millwall had done down in south London they let all the good work go to waste as Edun’s cross drifted over the Rovers defence and beyond keeper David Raya to spark wild scenes from the Tractor Boys fans.
Seeing Saturday’s games it has to be said Blackburn were a bit brutal in the tackle. With both teams looking relatively unsure at the back it could be another goal fest at Ewood Park. Expect chances galore.
If you fancy a punt on Millwall for their first away game of the campaign then you can have a bet at this link.
With Millwall likely to score a 20 Euro bet on Millwall to win 2-1 is priced at 9.8 so could win you a potential €196.00.
Another good wager is the total number of goals in the match. Over 3.5 goals in the game is 3.75 so if you place 30 Euros you can possibly win €112.50.
