Mooney Glad to be Back with the O’s [video]

28 July 2017

With their first match in the Vanarama National League fast approaching, EnergyBet caught up with Leyton Orient FC striker David Mooney.

32-year old Mooney, who has returned to the O’s, after his contract with Southend United expired, shared how excited he is to be back at Brisbane Road and the Matchroom Stadium. At a time when his old team is going through such positive changes and has adopted a refreshingly optimistic outlook, he said that signing with the O’s again was an “easy decision to take”, that he is “delighted to be back” and looking forward to an exciting season.

As a newly relegated club, Leyton Orient will find itself in an interesting position in the National League, with players like Mooney used to action at a higher level, and with the entire club having a substantial stadium and infrastructure behind them – but they will often find themselves playing matches against teams used to much more basic facilities, and a rawer approach to the game. When asked about the prospect of playing in the National League, Mooney had a pragmatic attitude, saying that the team would tap into the experience of the new, younger players with National League experience.

With the new resources, optimism and organisation that has been injected into the O’s through the likes of Teague and Ling, coupled with the skills of high calibre players like Mooney, and the enthusiasm and raw talent of the latest signings, Leyton Orient should be able to use the full spectre of the qualities available to make every match count in the coming season.
