Wenger watches from the stands as Arsenal dumped out of FA Cup. The Frenchman picked an under-strength side to face Nottingham forest at the City ground and was well punished as a result. Forest who themselves fielded six players under 23 out-gunned Arsenal in every department.
The game was one of the most exciting of the 3rd round and provided almost every possible scenario that a real cup tie can. Two penalties, a sending off, disputed penalties and lots and lots of goals. Forest though were the team that wanted it most and their application, endeavour and skill saw them run out 4-2 winners.
Mark Hughes’ reign at the Potteries came to an end this week after Stoke City lost in the 3rd round to League two side Coventry City. A good cup run may have seen Hughes hold on to his job, but defeat was too much for the Stoke City board to take and he was asked to leave shortly afterwards.
Coventry City currently stand 3rd in League 2 and are undergoing a period of stabilisation following some well documented problems in recent years can now look forward to the 4th round draw with confidence following their 2-1 win.
Championship side Millwall’s superb home form continues with a 4-1 win over Barnsley. Two goals from fan favourite Aiden O’Brien, and further goals from Ben Thompson and Fred Onyedinma, saw the Lions breeze into the next round despite going 1-0 down after only eleven minutes.
Barnsley also had a man sent off early in the second half but in truth the game was already beyond their reach. Another fantastic display from O’Brien set the home fans singing despite the low turnout. Only 5000 or so fans turned up at the Den to witness one of Millwall’s finest displays of the season. Millwall’s next home game is on Saturday against Preston North End who are six places above them in the league. However, on current form who would bet against the Lions playing in front of their own fans right now.
Wolve who made up one quarter of our 3rd round FA Cup acca, failed to defeat Swansea but still have another chance to progress. The game finished in deadlock, but the Midlands club have earned a trip to Wales where they could still surprise the Premier League side.

Aston villa suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat to Peterborough United. Milton Keynes dons prevailed 1-0 against QPR.
