Orient Entertain Barrow at Brisbane Road

Leyton Orient will play their second home game of the season on Saturday looking to kickstart their home campaign against visiting Barrow.

The kick off time for the first weekend home game of the 2018/2019 season will be 15.00pm UK time (16.00pm CET and Malta time).

The O’s first home match of the season on Wednesday saw them lead 1-0 up until injury time when Ebbsfleet struck an equalizer to send a gleeful set of away fans back on the short trip to Kent.

Having had a tough start last Saturday up in Greater Manchester where they played newly promoted Salford City and picked up a very creditable 1-1 away draw this was Leyton Orient’s second consecutive 1-1 draw.

To let it slip so late will be both upsetting and alarming for manager Justin Edinburgh as Ebbsfleet ground out their point and battled hard throughout. Orient if anything looked a little weary as if it were end of season not just the second game in. Maybe it was the fact that 2 games in 4 days was too much for them so early in the season.

An excellent 4,710 attendance crammed into the east London ground as Ebbsfleet picked up their first point of the season following their 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield last Saturday who themselves were beginning life in the National League for the first time following their relegation from the football league in May.

The Fleet looked to be heading for a second successive 1-0 defeat in the National League but substitute Corey Whitely fired in a deflected shot from 20 yards to gain the Fleet their first point and goal of the season.

Worryingly for Orient they lost George Elokobi to injury within the first three minutes and Fleet nearly carved them open moments later but Ebou Adams’ cross was cleared behind.

Orient went ahead with their first attack on 18 minutes. Macauley Bonne got behind the Fleet defence and crossed for James Brophy to side-foot home.

Fleet were nearly level four minutes later but home keeper Dean Brill did well to turn a low Myles Weston drive behind. Sean Shields twice went close, his cross-shot was turned over and then he bundled the ball wide after a neat exchange with Chris Bush.

Fleet were forced back after the break, as Orient enjoyed the majority of possession and only a fine save by Ashmore then denied Orient substitute Josh Koroma a second goal with 10 minutes left,

Orient nearly won it in the fourth minute of stoppage time but Ashmore held on to Bonne’s header.

Barrow the visitors on Saturday saw Jack Hindle scored twice as Barrow secured all three points with a comfortable home win over Havant and Waterlooville in the National League before they went down 2-0 to Halifax in their opening away game on Tuesday.

Orient and Barrow met twice in the National league last season where their first game in October saw a mad 2-2 draw with the O’s at Holker Street with all goals in the first half.

David Mooney stroked Orient ahead when he controlled and dispatching James Brophy’s left-wing cross, before Bedsente Gomis levelled shortly after with a looping header.

Craig Clay then connected with a rebound to restore the O’s’ advantage, only for Jordan White to square up things just before the interval with a close-range finish.

The corresponding match at Brisbane Road in April saw Orient muller Barrow 4-1 and without doubt the O’s will be firm favourites going into this particular match though.

Orient will be looking to make a point by snatching all 3 points on Saturday.
