Senegal First Team To Qualify

23 January 2017

Senegal beat Zimbabwe thanks to a two goals to nil win against Zimbabwe the outsiders in the group. The win means Senegal were the first team to qualify for the second round knock out stages.

Their two, 2-0 victories puts them as lead goal scorers in the competition and they have yet to concede a goal in Gabon. They are looking fairly formidable along with Ghana at this early stage of the proceedings.

Senegal had wrapped up this win very early in the match with goals from Mane in the 9th minute and Saivet in the 14th minute and although Zimbabwe pushed hard at times it was a comfortable win for the Senegalese.

I just wish the goalkeeper had been called Saivet as I’d have puns up until Easter.

Tunisia Beat North African Rivals Algeria

An own goal and a penalty was enough to give Tunisia a win against fierce local rivals Algeria in the earlier of the two Group C games.

Although Algeria pulled a goal back in injury time, a 2-1 victory was enough to set the Tunisians on course for the second stages.

Mandi unfortunately put the ball into the back of his own net to give Tunisia the lead after 50 minutes and a quarter of an hour later Sliti converted a penalty for a 2-0 lead. Despite an injury time goal from Hanni it was scant consolation for the Algerians.

With Senegal already through, both Tunisia 3 points and Algeria 1 point have a chance of qualifying as do Zimbabwe also on one point.

All to play for then in the final Group C matches.
