MERSEYSIDE DERBY: BETTING PREVIEW

Battle lines between neighbours will be drawn as a divided city welcomes one of English football’s biggest rivalries this weekend.

Join us as we give you a rundown of everything you need to know and provide you with some exciting Merseyside derby betting options for the upcoming game.

MERSEYSIDE DERBY BETTING

Everton

Evertonians have enjoyed an electric start to the season, shocking Premier League sides with a new and exciting brand of football. Unbeaten in their first four fixtures, the Toffees stand on top of the pack with maximum points. They’re in a strong position as they welcome the reigning champions – and bitter rivals – Liverpool to Goodison Park this weekend.

While the acquisition of new signings James Rodriguez and Allan has helped Carlo Ancelotti develop a new attacking dynamic to his side, it’s been their unstoppable homegrown striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has stolen the spotlight. Exploding onto the scene with nine goals in all competitions thus far, the 23-year old Englishman is at 8/5 (2.60) to add another goal to his tally this Saturday.

As their first fixture against one of the “big six”, Klopp’s Liverpool will provide Everton’s biggest obstacle to date, regardless of their fantastic run of form. Expectations will be high for Carlo Ancelotti to finally bring a halt to Everton’s dreadful home record in the Merseyside derby, and take the full three points in a matchup this side hasn’t won since 2010.

Liverpool

Liverpool’s introduction to the new season was a trial by fire, with the Reds laying the foundations of their 20/21 campaign by taking the full nine points against Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal. A winning run that would suddenly halt against Aston Villa in their fourth game. Favourited to easily brush aside a team which only escaped the clutches of relegation by five points last season, football fans around the globe were stunned by a 90-minute mauling which saw Aston Villa batter Liverpool 7-2.

The recent international break, and subsequent distancing from their previous result, could prove to be just what was needed ahead of Liverpool’s away day at bitter rivals Everton. While new arrivals Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota will be eager to get stuck into their first Merseyside derby, manager Jurgen Klopp will be looking forward to his 12th game against Everton, a fixture in which he has won seven, drawn four and lost zero.

Positive news from Anfield suggests Sadio Mane could make his return to football this weekend, having tested negative for coronavirus after 10 days of self-isolation. Having found the back of the net three times this season, the Senegalese forward measures up at 7/5 (2.40) to get himself onto the scoresheet come this Saturday.

EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

English champions Liverpool come out as the team to beat this weekend at 6/7 (1.86) to win, while Everton’s chances to cause an upset are calculated at 39/10 (4.90).

FA COMMUNITY SHIELD: BETTING PREVIEW

The FA Community Shield ushers in the new 20/21 season of English football, with Premier League champions Liverpool taking on the FA Cup winners Arsenal at Wembley this weekend.

Join us as we take a look at two of the most prestigious English clubs to grace the competition – each side has 15 titles – and give you some exciting FA Community Shield betting options for this Saturday.

FA COMMUNITY SHIELD BETTING

Arsenal

The dust has barely settled since their emphatic 2-1 FA Cup victory over Chelsea, and the Gunners enter the FA Community Shield match with only 28 days of rest behind them.

Although many still consider Arsenal to be a work in progress, Mikel Arteta’s influence since his arrival has been felt inside and outside of the club. Tinkering with their style of play and pushing confidence back into the squad, the young Spanish manager has seen his side hold out for remarkable victories against all of the top four, including a notable Premier League win (2-1) over Liverpool at the Emirates.

Premier League champions Liverpool should present a different challenge than Arsenal’s latest opponents – League One MK Dons proving the victims of a 4-1 thrashing. While viewed by some as nothing more than a glorified friendly, the fixture presents the possibility of laying down a marker ahead of the new season. It’s also a chance for Arteta to try out some of the latest additions to his squad, including the likes of Willian and Saliba.

Having scored both goals to claim Arsenal’s 14th FA Cup, captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is measured at 7/5 (2.40) to open his goal account and help Arsenal secure the shield this weekend.

Liverpool

The Premier League champions record-breaking season finished earlier than their opponents in this fixture, with nothing left to compete for once the league was secured. After ending a 30-year wait for their 19th Premier League title, the reigning champions have been able to regroup and recover with a pre-season training camp in Austria over the summer.

Although their contest in the capital will not be a direct indication of their season – Liverpool lost last year’s contest against Manchester City, only to go on and dominate the league – the Community Shield still offers great insight into what is to come.

Recent news from Anfield suggests that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and ex-Gunner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may both be sidelined due to injury. However, on the positive side, Virgil van Dijk has been given the all-clear after a nasty cut against Salzburg, and Trent Alexander-Arnold has been tipped to be fit and ready come this weekend.

With plenty of talent on the books at Liverpool, Klopp may be tempted to blood some of his younger players this Saturday, while also giving minutes to new signing Kostas Tsimikas, ahead of what will surely be a long season.

As their 19/20 top scorer, Mohamed Salah finds himself an interesting option for Community Shield betting, at 14/15 (1.93) to begin his season with a goal this weekend, while Sadio Mane is calculated at 23/20 (2.15) to find the net.

ARSENAL VS LIVERPOOL: FA COMMUNITY SHIELD BETTING ODDS

Liverpool come out as the team to beat this weekend at 7/10 (1.70) to win within the 90 minutes, while Arsenal measure up at 39/10 (4.90). With goals often being traded between these teams, why not bet on the favourites Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 2/1 (3.00)?

EPL BETTING PREVIEW: WEEK 32

Following a weekend that saw the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City progress into the FA Cup semi-finals, the Premier League returns to screens around the globe with a host of midweek fixtures and plenty of interesting EPL betting in Week 32.

Chelsea hammered the final nail in the coffin that was Manchester City’s title aspirations last Thursday, allowing Liverpool to deservedly claimed their 19th league title; securing their first-place position with an outstanding 86 points in only 31 games.

Although it will be Liverpool’s name engraved on the trophy, parts of the 2019/20 Premier League story still need to be written.

Join us this week as we dive into the EPL and witness champions clashing at the Etihad, alongside intense battles throughout the table for European places.

PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING

Manchester City

A 2-1 defeat away to Chelsea last week saw Manchester City part ways with their Premier League crown, putting Liverpool well and truly beyond their grasp. In a cruel twist of fate, the ex-champions will now be the first to welcome the new champs and form a guard of honour for Klopp’s men, as the two sides face one another this Thursday at the Etihad.

Although City’s attention may be on securing silverware in other competitions, Pep Guardiola will demand his team continue their five-year unbeaten run against Liverpool at home in the league, and set down a marker for next season against the newly crowned champions.

Liverpool

Having secured their first title in 30 years, Liverpool head to the Etihad Stadium this Thursday, eager to claim their first win as champions against Manchester City. Although this fixture is no longer a title decider, the intense rivalry between these sides should ensure that the match is anything but a formality.

With key first-team players Aguero and Fernandinho both unavailable for selection for Manchester City, Liverpool will look to exploit an under-strength side. Victory against the team who pipped them to the title last year would push the Reds another step closer to breaking records for wins and points in the league. Klopp’s men must look to emulate their performance from their previous encounter, where they took the full three points via a 3-1 victory at Anfield.

MANCHESTER CITY VS LIVERPOOL: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

As the two best sides in the country are set to lock horns, Manchester City come out on top at 35/33 (2.06) to win, with the champions, Liverpool looking at odds of 47/20 (3.35).

West Ham United

West Ham United continue their fight to secure a place in the Premier League next season, as they welcome Chelsea in a London derby this Thursday. David Moyes’s team toes the right-side of the relegation line by virtue of goal difference; Hammers fans know that their team is in dire need of points having lost both games since the restart.

Few West Ham United fans will expect a repeat of the reverse fixture which saw Aaron Cresswell secure the win for his team with the only goal of the day. With David Moyes’s side plagued by injuries, the Hammers go into the fixture knowing that they will need to beat Chelsea the hard way – without the likes of club record-singing Sebastian Haller and defender Arthur Masuaku.

Chelsea

Chelsea, on the other hand, find themselves fighting it out at the other end of the table in fourth spot, looking to secure a valuable place in the Champions League for next season.

With three wins out of three since the restart – beating the likes of Aston Villa, Manchester City and Leicester City, Frank Lampard’s team go into the London derby fully expecting all three points. Recent good news emanating from Stamford Bridge also suggests that Christian Pulisic may be up for selection this week against the Hammers after limping off in his last appearance.

WEST HAM UNITED VS CHELSEA: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

Unsurprisingly Chelsea come out as favourites at 3/5 (1.60) to win, with the chances of West Ham United causing an upset calculated at 9/2 (5.50).

Everton

Everton’s restart to the league has seen the Toffees face opponents from opposite ends of the table, drawing to the newly crowned champions and beating last-place Norwich City on the road.

Although still not where they want to be (currently in 12th place), a home win this Wednesday against Leicester City could propel Ancelotti’s side up the league, to just one point behind Tottenham in 7th. With their stand-out youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin available and enjoying the best season of his career with a total of 13 Premier League goals, Everton should head into their fixture against the Foxes oozing confidence.

Leicester City

Still searching for their first Premier League victory since the restart, the Foxes travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton. Going into the match, all eyes will be fixed on Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy to spark a repeat of the 2-1 win earlier this season in the reverse fixture. Leading the charts as the current Premier League top goalscorer with 19 goals, the Englishman is at 13/10 (2.30) to add to his tally this Wednesday night and presents an interesting option for EPL betting in Week 32.

With Chelsea cutting the gap to third place to just a point, and Manchester United hot on their heels, Brendan Rodgers will prepare his team for a tough contest, in which they must come out on top. Foxes fans know that a win has the potential to put some distance between themselves and their rivals, and possibly secure a Champions League qualification spot for next season.

EVERTON VS LEICESTER CITY: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

On account of their recent form and home advantage, Everton are favourited at 14/9 (2.55) to win, with Leicester City’s chances measured at 19/10 (2.90).

EPL BETTING PREVIEW: WEEK 31

We’ll explore your options for EPL betting in Week 31 as English football teams continue to find their feet in the latest set of crowd-less, socially distanced fixtures that are set to take place in the next few days.

PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING

Manchester United

Following another mistake from goalkeeper David de Gea, the Red Devils found themselves chasing a well-organised Tottenham team for most of the game last Friday. Victory for former manager Jose Mourinho would prove elusive though, as Eric Dier’s late shove on Paul Pogba gifted United the chance to share the points, with Bruno Fernandes converting their 11th penalty of the season.

Now unbeaten across 12 games in all competitions, Manchester United welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford this Wednesday. As things stand, fifth place will be good enough for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team to gain entry into the Champions League (Man City’s appeal pending). Still, Manchester United must avoid a repeat of their previous 3-3 draw earlier this season to guarantee their spot, as teams below them will be looking to capitalise on any dropped points.

Sheffield United

It’s safe to say that the restart of the league has not gone the way Sheffield United would have wanted. A highly controversial decision not to award a clear goal against Aston Villa, and a red-card followed by a flurry of three goals conceded against Newcastle, has left the Blades at odds with their previous form this season.

With a difficult game against Manchester United up next, Chris Wilder must sharpen his Blades and get them back to the mentality that saw them attain one of the best defensive records in the league – second only to the league leaders.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS SHEFFIELD UNITED: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

As the home team, Manchester United at 5/12 (1.42) to win, come out very much on top with Sheffield United measured at 81/10 (9.10).

Liverpool

Liverpool will entertain Crystal Palace this Wednesday as the league leaders return to Anfield for the first time in almost three months. Coming off an uninspiring 0-0 draw in the Merseyside derby last weekend, the Reds are now just five points away from securing their first Premier League title in over 30 years.

Klopp’s men will be bolstered against the Eagles by the return to the starting XI of both Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson. While Liverpool can’t win the title against Palace, a win will mean that the Reds could potentially claim the Premier League title at the home of current champions, Manchester City, on 2 July.

Crystal Palace

It’s been a season of exceeding expectations for Palace who are looking to secure some form of European football for the next season and remain positioned to record their best-ever Premier League points tally. A 2-0 win over Bournemouth last weekend propelled the Eagles into the top half of the League, positioning them at the centre of a mid-table battle, right-between Arsenal and Tottenham.

Heading into the fixture with a degree of positivity, Roy Hodgson will hope that his team are capable of emulating their emphatic 2-1 victory at Anfield back in April 2017, which, incidentally, was the last time this Liverpool team lost at their home ground in the Premier League.

LIVERPOOL VS CRYSTAL PALACE: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

Probably the most predictable odds in EPL betting for week 31, Liverpool are at 13/50 (1.26) to win, enter the matchup as strong favourites, with the odds of Crystal Palace causing an upset calculated at 13/1 (13.00).

Chelsea

Five minutes after coming on versus Aston Villa last weekend, super-sub Christian Pulisic made an immediate impact, scoring a goal and inspiring Chelsea’s 2-1 comeback victory. Although currently safe and five points clear of fifth place, the Blues’ fortunes could turn as they prepare themselves for a home fixture against a roaring Manchester City side this midweek.

Lampard will know that Chelsea’s rivals will bank on his team losing points this Thursday. Should they lose and their form suffers during a relatively tough stretch of fixtures to close out the season, Chelsea can still be caught by those below. The previous fixture between the sides finished with a City victory, 2-1 at the Etihad.

Manchester City

Manchester City have made an exceptional comeback to the Premier League, scoring eight goals without conceding, and securing six points in their first two matches. For the first time since the restart, Pep’s team will need to travel south for their first away fixture.

With the bad news of Sergio Aguero’s possible season-ending injury circulating around Manchester, the responsibility of goal-scoring responsibilities will fall on other members of the squad. Fortunately for City, the likes of Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez have both impressed since the restart. Pep’s men will need to be on their toes because while the previous fixture between the sides ended in victory for the Citizens, their last Premier League trip to Stamford Bridge ended in a 2-0 defeat.

CHELSEA VS MANCHESTER CITY: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

The away side enter the fixture as favourites, with Manchester City at 26/33 (1.79) to win, while Chelsea are fancied at 4.15 (63/20) to cause an upset.

EPL BETTING PREVIEW: WEEK 30

With the preliminary midweek games out of the way, English football returns to its rightful place as the highlight of a football-filled weekend.

Join us as we take a closer look at some options for EPL betting in Week 30 and examine some of the headline fixtures taking place in the next few days.

PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING

Tottenham

Currently seven points off the top four, Tottenham’s 2019-20 campaign had seemingly faltered under the weight of recurring defensive errors and hard-hitting injuries. With captain and talisman Harry Kane returning to fitness from injury, Spurs are now much better placed to finish the season competitively. Jose Mourinho will look to stoke the fire within his players in an effort to reignite their fight for a Champions League place and close the gap on their opponents in the table.

Manchester United

While Manchester United fans can only glance enviously at their fiercest rivals at the top of the table – both City and Liverpool are beyond reach, Champions League qualification is still very much within their grasp. With a European ban looming for Manchester City – appeal pending obviously, fifth place could well secure a spot in Europe’s top competition. While Sheffield United and Wolves separate the Red Devils and Spurs, the North London side are perhaps their biggest challengers for the position. A win, therefore, is vital.

TOTTENHAM VS MANCHESTER UNITED: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

Although they are the home-side, Tottenham come out as underdogs at 39/20 (2.95) to win, with Manchester United measuring up at 7/5 (2.40).

Everton

With his side mired in mid-table, Carlo Ancelotti will hope that his players were able to use the mid-season hiatus as a chance to study that tactical system he’s been trying to implement since taking the reigns in December. The Toffees return to football with an immensely challenging home derby against runaway league-leaders Liverpool this Sunday. Will Everton have the firepower to delay the inevitable? Or will they be dispatched as they so often have in recent years by their rivals?

Liverpool

There’s still the potential for this to be a truly historic season for Liverpool. Klopp’s men resume the season way out-front in the league with an astounding 82 points. Having dropped points only twice in 29 games, the Reds will be pumped to return back to their winning ways come this Sunday. As Liverpool cross to Goodison Park, Jordan Henderson and co will be focused on securing three of the final six points necessary to become champions.

EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

As is almost always the case this season, Liverpool find themselves as strong favourites at 20/33 (1.61) to win, with the chances of Everton causing an upset calculated at 23/5 (5.60).

Watford

Chaos, disappointment and questionable tactics have left a ragged Watford team fighting just above relegation places. On the plus side, an extraordinary 3-0 hammering of a then-unbeaten Liverpool side in Watford’s last home game showed the naysayers that the Hornets have the potential to push themselves out of the danger zone. With their first match back against a strong third-place Leicester City team, Watford will need to hit the ground running to fulfil their ambition of securing another season in the Premier League.

Leicester City

A full 103 days after their last competitive game, Leicester City will return to the pitch in an away fixture at Watford this Saturday.  With the aim of their season – clinching a Champions League spot – within touching distance, Brendan Rodgers will have his Foxes hungry for points to realise their European dream. There’s also the ever so small possibility that they could challenge Manchester City for second place, should Pep’s men turn their focus to other competitions where they still stand a chance of picking up silverware.

WATFORD VS LEICESTER CITY: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

No surprises as Leicester City come into this fixture as favourites at 9/8 (2.13) to win. Watford have odds of 5/2 (3.50) to secure a much-needed victory.

PREVIEW: PREMIER LEAGUE RETURN

Get up to speed with the state of the league in our Premier League preview.

The English Premier League has been given the all-clear by authorities and will return to our screens on 17 June. Which means Premier League betting is set to return too.

Following a series of discussions and meetings held between all 20 of the Premier League clubs towards the end of last month, an agreement was made to ensure the return of the competition in mid-June. The first two fixtures scheduled to take place are Manchester City vs. Arsenal and Aston Villa vs. Sheffield United, followed by a full fixture list that weekend.

Highly valued positions in the table remain up for grabs, with only nine-points separating current fourth-place holders Chelsea from eleventh-place Crystal Palace. Join us as we take a look into the league table and remind ourselves who’s fighting for what!

League title and the battle for the Champions League

We’ll start our Premier League preview at the top. This season, Liverpool have ascended to total domination of the Premier League. As the league restarts, they’re in an incredible position up-front, with the title all but secured. With Klopp’s men needing a total of 87 points to claim their first league title in 30 years, two wins will see them move out of Manchester City’s grasp and be crowned champions of the Premier League.

Although it’s mathematically still possible for Manchester City to challenge for the title, Pep’s men will know that the dream of three Premier League titles in a row is lost to them. Secure in second place with a five-point gap and a game in hand, the Citizens will look to make the best out of the situation, and finish in second place as best of the rest.

Much like Manchester City, Leicester City find themselves relatively secure, hovering in third place with a five-point gap to Chelsea. Brendan Rodgers will want his team to look forward and not back and will be pushing them to challenge City for a possible second-place finish, setting them up nicely for Champions League football next season.

Three points away from fifth-spot, Chelsea find themselves leading an extremely tight pack of teams fighting for the valuable fourth Champions League place. Although many considered this season a write-off for the Blues due to their summer transfer ban, Frank Lampard’s squad has shown otherwise. Chelsea will hope to continue to be able to rely on their young talented group to secure crucial points against the odds.

The fight for Europa League

Manchester United find themselves fending off competition for a spot in the Europa League, only six points above eleventh place. Solskjaer will have bigger hopes for the Red Devils though, and no doubt have them focused on challenging Chelsea for a Champions League spot.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United are in similar situations. Equal on points and separated by a couple of goals, both sides will need to fight through the final games of the season for a Europa League place.

North London teams Tottenham and Arsenal have had similarly turbulent seasons, leading both clubs to change manager mid-way through the season. With Jose Mourinho and Mikel Arteta each having a point or two to prove, we’d be reluctant to rule either club out of a last-ditch effort to secure a European spot.

The battle to avoid relegation

With the restart of the league, AFC BournemouthAston Villa and Norwich City are forced to face the grim reality of their situation once again. All find themselves in the red, at the bottom of the table and in danger of relegation. Each club must view the resumption of the league as an opportunity to turn their fortunes around and pick-up some incredibly valuable points that could ensure their survival.

Premier League Betting

You can expect plenty of Premier League Betting options at EnergyBet to ensure you can make the most of the return of the biggest football league in the world. Join us as we enjoy not only the comeback of English football but lots of other sporting competitions around the world too.

Stay tuned to EnergyBetWorld as we’ll be previewing Europe’s other top leagues as well as this Premier League preview.

Chelsea vs Liverpool: Betting Preview

On Sunday, the biggest game of the Premier League weekend takes place, as Chelsea welcome league leaders Liverpool to Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard’s side will be aiming to stop Liverpool’s winning streak that stretches to 14 games.

Both sides enter the fixture off the back of midweek Champions League defeats. For Liverpool, another loss followed their latest trip to Naples, with Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli side again proving the European kryptonite to the Supermen of the Premier League. Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered defeat at the hands of crisis club Valencia, who, despite taking the unpopular decision of sacking manager Marcelino, were able to put their European experience to good use and defeat Chelsea on their own turf.

Chelsea

Much has been made of Chelsea’s reliance on youth under Frank Lampard and while the starting XI employed by the former midfielder has been incredibly young by Chelsea’s standards, it’s not groundbreakingly low for the league in general – and it is Southampton who have actually fielded the youngest starting XI in the Premier League this season. However, as mentioned, it is a massive departure for a club that has so often relied on established superstars.

So far, Chelsea have undeniably relied upon their young players. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have scored all of Chelsea’s Premier League goals thus far this season. New signing Christian Pulisic has just a single assist to his name while Willian and Pedro are yet to register any meaningful statistics. Chelsea’s youngsters have come up short so far in the big games they’ve faced, losing to both Manchester United and Valencia, and in the European Champions, face undoubtedly their biggest test to date.

Liverpool

Liverpool are the form team of the Premier League; unbeaten for 22 games and having won 14 consecutive games scoring two or more goals, they’ve been imperious. Following Manchester City’s surprise loss to Norwich, they’re also 5 points clear at the top of the table after just 5 games. Jurgen Klopp’s men will not be able to rest on their laurels though, having been 7 points clear of Manchester City back in December ’18 and we all know how that finished.

Defeat to Napoli could, therefore, be considered a good thing for The Reds in the grand scheme of things to come; Liverpool should be under no illusions that they are unbeatable. Losing away to Napoli in Europe is a far from unexpected result, even for the European Champions, and should prevent no obstacle to qualification from the group stage. Liverpool, you would imagine, will be keen to put things right against Chelsea and maintain their gap over Manchester City who face a mounting injury crisis in defence.

CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL: PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

Despite being the homes side, Chelsea are not favoured to win and priced at 27/10 (3.70). A draw is also at 27/10 (3.70) while Liverpool are favourites to win at 24/25 (1.96).

Chelsea vs Liverpool: Premier League Betting Tips

Head-to-head in the Premier League, things couldn’t be tighter between the two sides. They’ve played 54 times, with each team winning 20 games (both with 14 home and 6 away wins) and 14 draws. Last season’s corresponding fixture was a 1-1 draw, while Chelsea triumphed 1-0 the season before. But this is a very different Liverpool side to those Chelsea have faced in the past. They’ve got major silverware in the cabinet and are steamrolling their way through the league. We’d back Liverpool to continue their 14-game winning streak, scoring 2 goals or more, and bet on Liverpool to win and over 2.5 goals at 14/9 (2.55).

Premier League Season Preview

The 2018/19 Premier League season was a battle for the ages, featuring two of the best teams of the Premier League era: Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Both teams look set to do battle again in what should prove another exciting season.

Season 2018/19

In 25 of the 27 seasons since the Premier League was formed, Liverpool’s tally of 97 points would have won them the title. Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s men, they ran into the only team ever to score more points, Pep’s Manchester City. Fresh off a 100-point season in 17/18, City would finish the season with 14 straight league wins to secure 98 points and a second successive league title.

The fight for the remaining Champions League places would prove a close one. Chelsea finished 3rd, just one point ahead of Tottenham in 4th. North London rivals Arsenal were a point and a place back in 5th. Manchester United rounded out the Top 6 and took the final Europa League group stage place. Wolves finished an impressive return to the top flight by finishing 7th and making it to the Europa League qualifiers.

At the bottom of the table, Huddersfield and Fulham would have their fates settled relatively early. Fulham proving to have the worst defence in the league, while Huddersfield could only manage three wins. Cardiff and Brighton took their battle for survival to the penultimate game of the season, with a loss to Crystal Palace sealing relegation for Cardiff.

Champions-elect?

MANCHESTER CITY Last season’s winners are favourites to repeat the feat and make it a three-peat by securing their third title in a row. Captain and club legend Vincent Kompany may have left without a direct replacement, but City have plenty of players to fill his role, both on and off the pitch. Club stalwart David Silva takes the captain’s armband while Fernandinho prepares to step into central defence when needed – with new record signing Rodri set to anchor the defence. Guardiola will hope to get a full season out of Kevin De Bruyne this time out, and bank on Raheem Sterling continuing his ascension to the top of the game.

LIVERPOOL – Jurgen Klopp and Guardiola can talk about an open title race all they want; nobody is buying it. Liverpool finished 25 points ahead of third-placed Chelsea last term. And with yet another change of manager and a transfer ban, The Blues are unlikely to overhaul them. Speaking of transfer bans, Liverpool seem to be operating under an almost self-imposed ban. Their signings having been restricted to teenagers and a back-up goalkeeper on a free transfer. Keep their first XI – and in particular the front three – fit, and there’s no reason The Reds can’t push City all the way in the league once more. Especially if City if allow themselves to get distracted in pursuit of feat that Klopp’s men managed last season, and City haven’t thus far come close to; winning the Champions League.

Relegation fodder?

SHEFFIELD UNITED / NORWICH CITY – Of course, the recently promoted sides are always favourites to be relegated back to whence they came. Over the past 10 seasons, on average, one of the three promoted sides will manage to survive. This time around, that side is likely to be Aston Villa, due to the heavy investment that the club has made in its playing staff – of note, Fulham did similar last year.

Norwich were the highest scoring side in the Championship last season thanks to their attacking brand of football. Unfortunately, they were also pretty open at the back, conceding 57 goals in their league campaign. If they are to survive, they’ll need to be much more solid. Sheffield Utd were very much the opposite and finished the season with the best defensive record in the division. They’ll be hoping that captain Billy Sharp will be able to fire in enough goals to keep them up.

BURNLEY / BRIGHTON – If one of the promoted sides is likely to stay up, then one of the existing teams is likely to go down. The most likely suspects are Burnley and Brighton, with neither side having invested heavily in new players in the transfer window. Both sides struggle to score goals and this will perhaps be the cause of their downfall. Brighton are as reliant as ever on ageing striker Glenn Murray, who was responsible for over a third of their goals last season. Burnley and shots on goal – at either end – do not go hand in hand. Last season no side had few shots than The Clarets. On the plus side, no side allowed fewer shots than Sean Dyche’s men. And when they did create chances, those chances were normally of high quality. They’ll be hoping that returning striker Jay Rodriguez can stick a few of them in the back of the net.

PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING ODDS

Manchester City are favourites to win the title at 1/2 (1.50) while Liverpool find themselves at 13/5 (3.60). Nobody else is considered to be in with a genuine shot, with Spurs the best of the rest and given odds of 18/1 (19.00) to win the Premier League. There are a number of teams grouped in as relegation candidates, Sheffield United are 2/3 (1.66), Norwich are 9/10 (1.90), Burnley and Brighton are both 13/7 (2.85) while Aston Villa are 2/1 (3.00). When it comes to topping the scoring charts, Harry Kane is favourite 4/1 (5.00). Last seasons joint top-scorers are priced as follows, Mo Salah at 5/1 (16.00), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 8/1 (9.00) and Sadio Mane at 12/1 (13.00).

Tottenham vs Liverpool: Champions League Final Betting Preview

On Saturday in Madrid, Tottenham will face Liverpool in an all-English match-up, as they compete in the biggest game in club football, the UEFA Champions League final.

This game signifies a huge moment for English football, cementing the Premier League as the dominant force in Europe, capable of sweeping all European competition before it. Because this is the first time in history that both major European finals – Europa League and Champions League – have been contested by four teams from the same nation. This all-English Champions League final – the second in the competition’s history and the first since 2008 when Chelsea were defeated on penalties by Manchester United – also signifies the end of the Spanish era, with either Barcelona or Real Madrid having won the last five finals.

Tottenham Hotspur

Making their first ever appearance in the final, Tottenham are the eighth English club to appear in the fixture; giving England more finalists than any other country – Italy and Germany are next on the list with six each. While the fixture represents a changing of the guard in terms of nationality, Spurs also represent a change in terms of the established elite of European football. They are the 40th club to reach the final, and the first newcomers since Chelsea in 2008. Triumph, and Spurs would become the 23rd side to win the European Cup and the first new name on the trophy since Chelsea’s 2012 victory.

Tottenham’s progress to the final has been dramatic, to say the least! The quarter-finals saw bundles of drama and away goals victory over Premier League Champions Manchester City. But somehow, the semi-final was even more epic, with Spurs becoming only the second team in UEFA Champions League history to recover from losing the home first leg in a semi-final, turning around a 1-0 defeat by Ajax in north London with a 3-2 success in Amsterdam. Lucas Moura was the hero on the night, scoring both a hat-trick and the injury-time winner to send Pochettino’s men through.

Liverpool

Unlike Spurs, Liverpool are no strangers to Champions League finals, having reached eight in their history and four since the turn of the century. Last years losing finalists, The Reds have an English record five European Cups in the Anfield trophy cabinet and will be hoping to go one better than last year. Liverpool lost their best player Mohamed Salah early in the game and suffered multiple blunders from goalkeeper Loris Karius in a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

This season’s side is a different proposition though. In almost any other year, they’d have been runaway Premier League champions. Unfortunately for Liverpool, though, they finished second to an outstanding Manchester City side. So, this represents the only chance of silverware left for Jurgen Klopp’s team, who reached the final with an epic semi-final comeback story of their own; following up a strange 3-0 defeat at the Nou Camp with a resounding 4-0 thumping at Anfield of Lionel Messi’s Barcelona.

TOTTENHAM VS LIVERPOOL: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL BETTING ODDS

Given their form this season and their history in European competition, it’s no surprise that Liverpool are favourites to lift the European Cup for a sixth time, at odds of 4/9 (1.44). Despite their dramatic progression through the knockout rounds, Spurs are 9/5 (2.80) to win the trophy for the first time.

Tottenham vs Liverpool: Champions League Final Betting Tips

Liverpool go into this fixture having been by far the dominant force domestically this season. In the Premier League, they finished 26 points ahead of the team from North London and beat Spurs 2-1 home and away. Since 2016 the sides have faced each other eight times, with Liverpool winning four games, drawing three and losing only once to Poch’s men.

Liverpool also have a great record against English sides in European competition and are unbeaten in their last five against domestic rivals. However, Spurs, because of their intense style of play, always present a tough proposition for Liverpool and are arguably the most difficult domestic opposition The Reds face outside of Manchester City. Spurs also hope to have talisman Harry Kane back in the line-up following injury. So why not back the fairytale to continue, and bet on Spurs to win and both teams to score at 28/5 (6.60)?

Premier League: The Title Contenders – Betting Preview

On Sunday, the epic fight to be crowned champions of the Premier League will be concluded as Manchester City face Brighton, and Liverpool take on Wolves.

It’s been a title race for the ages. A ding-dong battle that’s seen two of the greatest sides in Premier League history push each other all the way to the final fixture, and in doing so achieve almost unprecedented levels of performance in the process. Will Manchester City be the first side to retain the title in 10 years? Or will Liverpool secure their first league title success for 29 years?

Brighton vs Manchester City

Despite being without a win in eight fixtures, The Seagulls were able to secure their Premier League status for next season with a couple of draws against Arsenal and Newcastle. Chris Hughton’s men go into this fixture with nothing to play for except pride and the hope that they might improve upon their performance from when the two sides met earlier in the season – City comprehensively winning 2-0 with a whopping 81% possession.

Man City are unbeaten in the Premier League since January. An incredible run of 13 league victories in a row has seen City overhaul title-rivals Liverpool; who had a seven-point cushion over Pep’s men at the start of the run. While Champions League success has proven as elusive as ever for The Citizens, this side still has the chance to break new ground. Having already won the Carabao Cup, City remain in contention for a historic domestic treble. Historic because no side has ever won the League, FA Cup and League Cup in a single season.

Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

In almost any other season, Jurgen Klopp’s side would be runaway champions and lauded as one of the greatest sides in Premier League history. But this isn’t any other season. So, despite suffering only one loss all season, and accumulating higher points tally than Manchester United ever have, Liverpool could find themselves missing out on the trophy that has eluded them for almost 30 years. They come into the fixture high on confidence, with Salah set to return and a spring in their step thanks to the logic-defying win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final.

Having secured 7th spot and European football, Wolves can justifiably consider themselves the ‘best of the rest’. They have a great record against the top 6, their style suited to absorbing pressure and striking on the counter, as both Arsenal and Manchester United have found in recent fixtures. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has also beaten Liverpool once already this season. However, the victory came in the FA Cup, at Molineux, against a second-string Liverpool side that featured a 16-year-old debutant at centre back. Liverpool in the league at Anfield, where they are unbeaten for over two years, is a very different proposition.

PREMIER LEAGUE: THE TITLE CONTENDERS BETTING ODDS

Manchester City are overwhelming favourites for victory against Brighton at 1/6 and 1/10 to win the Premier League. Liverpool are favourites against Wolves, priced at 1/3 but clear outsiders for the title at 6/1.

Premier League: The Title Contenders – betting tips

With both title contenders in such great form and strong favourites in their respective fixtures, we can’t see any result other than both sides winning. To find value it’s best to step outside the title race and look at the other title on the line, for a few of the players involved in this fixture, Premier League top scorer.

Mo Salah currently occupies the top spot on 22 goals, with Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane both on 20 goals apiece. Given Brighton’s defensive woes this season, it’s not inconceivable that Aguero could net a hat-trick, and Wolves keep Salah – who returns from a concussion – at bay. After all, Sergio Aguero has 10 Premier League hat-tricks to his name, putting second on the all-time list behind Alan Shearer. Back Sergio Aguero to finish Top Goalscorer at 4/1.

Barcelona vs Liverpool Betting Preview

On Wednesday night, Liverpool visit Camp Nou to play Barcelona in the glamour tie of the Champions League semi-final stage.

Barcelona and Liverpool are European football royalty and head into this contest level on 5 European Cups apiece. With the top scorer across all European leagues – Lionel Messi – turning out for the Catalans, and the top two scorers in the Premier League – Salah and Mane – leading the attack for the redmen, 0-0 looks an unlikely result.

Barcelona

Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Liverpool, Barcelona were able to put their league campaign to bed with a 1-0 victory over Levante; securing their 26th La Liga title in the process thanks to a goal from second-half substitute Lionel Messi.

Winning another La Liga title will not be enough to classify this season as a success for the Catalans. This is, after all, their fourth Spanish title in five years and Messi’s 10th overall. The La Liga title is almost expected. To attain true glory, Barca must succeed in completing a treble: La Liga, Copa del Rey, and a first Champions League title since 2015 (the last time they reached the final). Central to Barcelona’s success will be, as ever, Lionel Messi.

Liverpool

Much like Barcelona, Liverpool are chasing success on two fronts. Unlike Barca, one of those fronts is their domestic league. Any other year, this Liverpool side’s Premier League record (only one loss and already taken over 90 points with two games remaining) would be lauded as one of the best in recent years. Unfortunately for Liverpool, they still train an outstanding Manchester City side.

Have no doubts, Liverpool are the side that Barcelona would least have liked to face in the competition. With away victories in the last two rounds, the reds have proved they can travel abroad and upset the hosts on their own turf. And while Mohamed Salah once again top’s the goalscoring chart in the Premier League, this Liverpool side is built on much firmer foundations than the side that lost last year’s final against Real Madrid. With PFA Player of the Year Virgil Van Dijk marshalling the defence and Brazil no.1 Alisson Becker between the sticks, Liverpool stand a better chance than most at shutting out Messi.

BARCELONA VS LIVERPOOL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ODDS AT ENERGYBET

Barcelona head into this massive Champions League semi-final clash at Camp Nou as favourites for victory at 7/8 (1.87). But Liverpool shouldn’t be underestimated given their recent form – 10 victories in a row in all competitions – and will fancy their chances despite odds of 31/10 (4.10) for the win.

Barcelona vs Liverpool betting tips

Given the European pedigree of both clubs, it’s a little surprising that Barcelona and Liverpool have faced each other on only eight occasions. Liverpool have been the dominant force in these fixtures, winning three (two at Camp Nou) and drawing two of the matches played. Barcelona have never knocked Liverpool out of a European competition, losing the tie courtesy of away goals the last time the sides met – a round of 16 Champions League fixture in 2007.

With their high-intensity football and goal-scoring threat, Liverpool have every chance of taking a second consecutive Champions League victory at the home of Barcelona. But, even with the colossus that is Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of their defence, keeping Lionel Messi at bay for the entire game seems like too tough a task. That’s why we’d back Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 26/5 (6.20).

Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tips

Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tips – English Premier League – Saturday 3rd November. Kick-off 5.30pm

This mouth watering clash between Arsenal and Liverpool is sure to deliver fireworks on the pitch. Arsenal are unbeaten in League in 8 matches with Liverpool yet to taste defeat in the Premier League. Last year this match delivered 6 goals in a 3-3 thriller. The year before on the opening day of the season Liverpool were the victors in a 4-3 win.

Arsenal are firing in front of goal with Lacazette and Aubameyang looking full of confidence and for Liverpool they have got their scoring shooting boots back on with Mane and Salah on the score sheet in the past two matches in all competitions.

Arsenal still look shaky in defence and Liverpool will look to exploit this on Saturday night as will be on the front foot from kick-off looking to take an early lead at The Emirates.

Match Odds :  Arsenal 43/20 (3.15)            Draw 27/10 (3.70)          Liverpool 16/15 (2.07)

Premier league 18/19

Arsenal are the second highest scorers in the Premier League with 24 goals and at home they have put 3 goals past West Ham & Leicester and 2 goals past Everton & Watford. When they face Liverpool, Arsenal will be looking to start positively as they had to come from a goal down v West Ham & Leicester, and Liverpool will not let Arsenal back into the game the way these two teams did.

For Liverpool, the major improvement has been defensively as they have only conceded 4 goals all season. And with the chances Arsenal will allow Liverpool, the Merseyside team will be looking to pounce and look to their back 4 to keep Arsenal out and take 3 points back up north.

Liverpool are 16/15 (2.07) favourites to win the game and continue their unbeaten start to the season. For Arsenal to win and inflict a first defeat on Liverpool is priced at 43/20 (3.15). The draw can be backed at 27/10 (3.70).

Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tips

With the talent on show, Arsenal vs Liverpool should deliver plenty of goals and over 3.5 goals is priced at a tasty 5/4 (2.25).

To get a better price on Liverpool to win, take 43/20 (3.15) on offer for Liverpool to beat Arsenal and both teams to score. This would be our value pick.

In goalscorer market Lacazette is 5/1( 6.0) to score first and his strike partner Aubameyang 11/2 (6.50). For Liverpool Salah is the key talisman and priced at 7/2 (4.50) to open the scoring, however our value pick is Sadio Mane who is priced 13/2 (7.50).

A couple of correct scores of interest would be Liverpool to win 3-1 at odds of 12/1 (13.0) and 3-2 priced at 15/1 (16.0)

Good luck with your bets. Odds correct at time of going to print.
