Rivalries collide as Man Utd face Liverpool

Man Utd v Liverpool: Second faces third in the Premier League Saturday lunchtime as Pogba and Lukaku face Salah and Firmino. After beating Chelsea last week, Man Utd are looking for back-to-back wins over top four rivals. While Liverpool are on fire with Salah scoring for fun.

We expect plenty of goals so pick your bet from these two. £20 on Man Utd to win and both teams to score returns £90 or £20 on Liverpool to win and both teams to score returns £98. Find these bets in the specials section of full list of match markets.

Looking Forward to the London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are locked in a battle to seemingly avoid the automatic Champions League spots. Both teams have stumbled recently when presented with the opportunity to make gains on the top four. Tottenham may consider themselves lucky to have got a result against Liverpool recently when a win was vital for their European aspirations. Can Arsenal make it successive seasons in failing to gain automatic qualification? Time will tell.

Mahrez goes to City!

Riyad Mahrez will more than likely travel to Manchester City this weekend. He is unlikely to be having a medical though. Mahrez has been on a self-imposed strike since his transfer to the Etihad fell through. Claude Puel may still take him on the bus though if only to let him see what he could have had.

This might have been a tough game for Manchester City with Mahrez playing, it will be easier without him. Expect the Midlanders to put up a great performance, but it is another win for the Sky Blues for me.

Palace could heap more misery on Everton at the weekend

Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace side have been flying of late and they are starting to pull away from the relegation places. Everton may not have fully recovered from their 5-1 demolition at the hands of Arsenal last week and Palace could prove to be another very tough test for Toffees.

Things need to get better quickly for Benitez’ Newcastle

Newcastle are like a corpse afloat right now. Dangerously close to the relegation zone and with little hope of that changing anytime soon. United may have slipped up against Tottenham but don’t expect Newcastle to begin their revival with victory over the Reds.

Champions Chelsea host former champions Leicester City

Current EPL champions Chelsea entertain former champions Leicester City in one of the ties of the weekend. Chelsea will be looking to leapfrog Manchester United into second place, whereas Leicester will be hoping to make up some ground on Burnley and Arsenal having had some poor results over the Christmas period.

Chelsea are one of the teams in my weekend acca, together with Tottenham, Newcastle and Watford.

A £20 stake returns £77

New Year – Newcastle

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is looking to add to his squad in January to give them some fresh impetus for the New Year. One of the players he is reportedly looking at is former Newcastle and Liverpool forward Andy Carroll. Carroll, who maybe now regrets ever leaving Newcastle could be a good addition for the Geordie side if he is able to maintain a decent level of fitness. Either way with or without the pony-tailed forward Newcastle should be too strong for Swansea this weekend.

Southampton want their players back

Southampton is another side looking to dabble in the transfer market this month. Boosted by the recent £75 million sale of full back Virgil van Dyke, manager Mauricio Pellegrino wants to bring back former academy player Theo Walcott to St Mary’s. Pellegrino needs a goalscorer from somewhere if he is to keep the fans off his back. Unfortunately, he is unlikely to find one by Saturday, which is why I have Watford down as one quarter of my weekend acca.

Out with the old, in with the new. Kane and Rooney face off

Tottenham and England superstar Harry Kane goes up against former United and England superstar Wayne Rooney. Who will win? Who knows! This match could be the game of the day though, with Tottenham looking to grab fourth spot from Liverpool and Everton seeking to establish just how far they have come under Sam Allardyce. This has all the makings of a classic. Tottenham to shave it though and complete my weekend acca 😊

Can Liverpool succeed where all others have failed?

Without question the game of the weekend should be, Liverpool against Manchester City. Liverpool, playing at home, will want to keep their recent excellent form going with victory over the league leaders. It will be a major challenge for the Reds as they look to hold onto fourth spot ahead of Tottenham.

City have only won thirteen times at Anfield in eighty-four attempts. Liverpool have won forty-nine times with twenty-two draws. However, a Coutinho-less Liverpool will not want a repeat of the result from their last meeting back in September which city won 5-0!

Sunday Special: 16:00 Liverpool 21/10 v Manchester City 6/5

City to win and both teams to score. £20 stake returns £65

Can Tottenham Defeat ‘Barcelona’ of the North

City have now beaten every team around them except Spurs. Will Tottenham be the team to instil some doubt into the champions elect? Pochettino’s men certainly have the pedigree and having already beaten Real Madrid this season in the Champions League they will go into the game confident in their ability. However, some poor results recently have seen Spurs drop off the pace and they remain outside the top four. This could be a season defining game for both teams. Having recently beaten second placed United, City have already put plenty of daylight between their challengers. Victory for Tottenham though could just explode City’s air of invincibility.

Arsenal can’t afford to fail again

The Gunners take on Newcastle at the Emirates in a game that they really need to win having lost recently to Man Utd and only managed a draw against Southampton at the weekend.

Newcastle have been on a terrible run with no wins in their last five games and uncertainty surrounding the club’s potential take-over. Recent results certainly can’t have helped Mike Ashley’s negotiations as Newcastle’s value must be plummeting by the week.

Could Leicester City push for Champions League spot?

Leicester’s recent form has seen them move up to 8th in the league, just seven points off a Champions League spot.

This week’s game against Crystal Palace is another great opportunity to put some pressure on the teams above them and with many of the main title challengers apparently faltering, a top four finish is not as silly as it sounds.

Newcastle United 2 Aston Villa 0 February 20th 2017

Aston Villa lost yet again this time away 2-0 at Championship leaders Newcastle United and my be without Scott Hogan who went off injured and could be out for a number of weeks.

Let’s make no bones about it. Villa are in trouble. Deep trouble. They seem to be advancing at the same pace as Leicester City have recently done in the Premiership by sliding down the table at such a rate that safety seems more than a lifebelt away.
