England 1/3 are so close to qualification for the World Cup in Russia that they can almost taste the Caviar. One good result tomorrow night against Slovenia 17/2 and they will be able to submit their visa applications on Friday. Recent form suggests that this should be a formality against a Slovenia team who have suffered 3 losses in their last six games.
However, England could only manage a draw in Ljubljana last October, and given their propensity for disaster where small footballing nations are concerned they will need to put in a good performance.
Fourth placed Scotland 7/5 take on second placed Slovakia 21/10 in what is destined to be a defining group F game. Victory over Slovakia would see the Scots move above them into second place (assuming Slovenia lose to England) and put them in contention for the play-offs. Scotland have a few key injury worries including Leigh Griffiths (calf strain) but Strachan has named a strong squad and will be hopeful that they can overturn a 3-0 defeat from the away fixture.
IN OTHER NEWS: Northern Ireland 9/1 entertain the mighty Germans 2/7 in a game where almost any result should not upset their play-off hopes.
Wales 34/33 will be without their talisman Gareth Bale for Friday’s game against Georgia 61/20. With or without Bale though the Welsh side should be looking to cruise through this fixture.
