The O’s attempt to stop the slide against Morecambe

19 January 2017

It’s 20th against 17th in League Two on Saturday as Leyton Orient set about halting an alarming slide towards relegation from the Football League.

Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Fratton Park made it three defeats on the bounce for the O’s, while other results at the bottom reduced the gap between us and the drop zone to just two points.

Cheltenham climbed out of the bottom two by beating an Accrington side that are now level on points with Orient after picking up just six points in 12 matches to drop from 7th to 21st. The Robins leapfrogged Notts County, who have collected just two points from their last 12 matches.

This week’s visitors Morecambe are enjoying a mini revival, after drawing 1-1 at promotion chasing Carlisle to stretch their unbeaten run to three matches. The five points they have collected during that period has lifted them from 19th to 17th, eight points clear of 23rd placed Notts County.

Like Orient, Morecambe have been far better away from home. The Shrimps have taken 18 of their 31 points on the road, despite playing one match fewer away from the Globe Arena.

After seeing 11 goals in the last three matches at Brisbane Road, O’s fans should expect more of the same. We have scored in our last four home games, but kept only two clean sheets in 14.

Meanwhile, Morecambe have failed to score in only two of their 12 away matches, with a league high 88% of their matches featuring over 1.5 goals.
