The O’s are back in action at high flying Doncaster on Saturday, just four days after suffering an eighth consecutive home defeat, this time against Exeter City. The board have reacted to the defeat by sacking manager Alberto Cavasin, just seven weeks after he was given the job.
The good news is that we have been far more successful on the road this season, having collected 15 of our 18 points away from Brisbane Road. The bad news is that Doncaster sit on top of the home form table with six wins and three draws from nine matches at the Keepmoat Stadium. In fact, only Portsmouth have scored more home goals than ‘Donny’ in League Two this season.
On Tuesday, we failed to mount any real pressure on the Exeter goal despite enjoying 55% possession. Sandro Semedo provided a spark off the bench and Jay Simpson came close to equalising on 66 minutes, but ultimately we drew a sixth blank in 10 home matches. Fortunately, we have looked much more dangerous on the road, scoring three times in each of our recent victories at Hartlepool and Colchester.
However, if we are to a record a third successive away victory, we will probably need to score another three, as Doncaster have found the net at least twice in six of their last seven home matches. In fact, three of their last five matches at the Keepmoat have returned ‘over 3.5 goals’, which suggests there is good value in EnergyBet’s odds of 2.85 for a similarly high scoring result.
On Saturday, we must believe that winning the match is an achievable goal. Most of our away successes may have come against teams in the bottom half of the table, but we did also win at Grimsby, who have taken four points from matches against the top two in the last week.
