Manchester City beat Tottenham Hotspur in decisive fashion to put one hand on the Premier League title. The 4-1 scoreline suggests a comfortable victory for City. In reality, it was. Tottenham never looked like troubling the Champions elect and even their star men Kane and Alli rarely troubled City. Pochettino’s men really needed a win to give the rest of the Premier League some hope, but it wasn’t to be, and the Sky Blue machine just keeps rolling along.
United held on for a face saving if uninspiring victory over Premiership strugglers, West Brom. Back to within eleven points of the leaders sounds more and more hopeless every time you say it. United must keep on taking every match as it comes though and a strong showing in 2018 and maybe some new personnel during the transfer window and who knows.
Consistency. Liverpool have lacked any of this so far this season. Jurgen Klopp has urged his side to be more consistent performers and they do seem to be performing well just lately. Mostly this is due to the amazing form of their Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah who scored his 14th goal of the season at the weekend. Any player that can put Tottenham’s superstar Harry Kane in the shade with the form that he is in has got to be doing something right. Liverpool need to capitalise on this if they are to maintain their position in the top four.
Leicester who had been on an impressive winning run of late and who have climbed to 8th in the league were soundly thrashed at home by Crystal Palace. Poor form and an unhealthy position at the wrong end of the table at the beginning of the season saw their manager Craig Shakespeare leave the King Power stadium. Since then they have shown the same sort of form that saw them win the Premier League title a couple of seasons back. A similar scenario now sees Crystal Palace, unbeaten in their last five games, steadily claw their way back out of the relegation zone and towards the safety of mid-table. The Roy Hodgson effect is clearly kicking in down at Selhurst Park.
