The relegation threatened O’s are on the road again this weekend after last week’s bruising 6-0 cup defeat at Sheffield United. Fortunately, we are back in League Two action, and facing a Colchester team experiencing a similarly bad run of form.
The U’s are without a win in eight league matches since a 3-2 victory over Blackpool on 10 September. They have only managed to score more than a single goal in one league match since. Like Orient, they were also knocked out in the first round of the FA Cup against League One opponents.
John McGreal, promoted by the club from the under 21’s in May 2016, has been left dismayed by his side’s deteriorating league form. After collecting seven points from the first three matches of the season, Colchester have only managed a further ten points from the last 12 outings.
Therefore, this is a huge opportunity for Orient to pick up a morale-boosting win and start to climb up the table. We may be in the bottom two with only 15 points, but there are seven teams sitting on either 16 or 17, and just four points separating us and Mansfield in 13th place.
Alberto Cavasin will be hoping that top scorer Ollie Palmer, who was this week announced as our October Player of the Month, can shake off a minor injury to make the starting XI at the Colchester Community Stadium. Potential replacement Jordan Bowery has yet to fire for us, with one goal in 13 league appearances since joining from Oxford United in the summer.
This match could easily be a low scoring affair, as the three goals scored by Colchester over the last five matches includes a direct free kick and a penalty. However, whilst we have only kept one clean sheet away from home this season, we have also found away goals much easier to come by. In fact, 11 of our 16 goals have come away from Brisbane Road. A close 0-1 win for Orient is an attractive 7.70 for the optimistic fans.
