Arsene Wenger got a little agitated with some poor decision making in a game that saw the Gunners have a player sent off and three penalty decisions of which two were wrong. To the extent that the Arsenal Manager pushed the 4th official at the end of a highly contentious match.
Mustafi opened the scoring on 59 minutes for the Emirates team before a penalty for Burnley 3 minutes into stoppage time saw Gray convert and seemingly give Burnley a decent point following their march back into the game following Xhaka’s red card in the 65th minute. However 8 minutes into stoppage time Arsenal were given a penalty and Sanchez scored to give the Gunners all 3 points. By this time Wenger had lost his rag and thought he was in the stands with the fans (he might well be next week) and it Burnley’s turn to get furious.
Referee Jon Moss made some awful decisions that changed the whole face of the game and maybe he should have stayed in Culture Club.
In the third game on Sunday Southampton beat Leicester 3-0 in a match both teams needed to win with form and confidence from both going downhill fast. Saints were 2-0 up at the break and didn’t look back as they stopped the rot of their recent run of poor results.
The late game on Saturday saw two of the season’s front runners Spurs and Manchester City go into battle for what was a fascinating game with one main contentious issue.
It was a game of two halves with city controlling the first half but Spurs reigniting after going down 2-0 and showing real strength of character although it was a huge error of judgment by the referee that changed this match that was a brilliant game to the neutral observer.
Sane gave City the lead after only 4 minutes of the second half and Kevin De Bruyne who still looks like he just needs a satchel and he should be off to school notched the second after 54 minutes to extend the City lead. Hugo Lloris was at fault for both goals which was uncharacteristic of the French international.
Dele Ali poached one back for Tottenham before a shocker of a decision. Ref Andre Marriner completely ignored Kyle Walker’s blatant push on Raheem Sterling which was a sure fire penalty in almost anyone’s books. It’s a while since we’ve seen such a cock up from a Premiership referee but Andre didn’t let us down although he let down the City faithful who were baying for his blood shortly afterwards as substitute Son leashed a shot past Bravo into an empty net to give the travelling fans something to shout about.
Pep Guardiola gave another post match defensive interview, funny enough it was more defensive than his players have been this season at times. He doesn’t appear at all a happy man and I wouldn’t be surprised if he can’t get out of his present mind frame that he might even walk come the end of the season.
On Saturday afternoon, West Brom beat a lackluster rudderless Sunderland 2-0 at the Hawthorns but it could have been a lot more if David Moyes hapless wonders didn’t hang on by their coat tails to ensure they didn’t endure a heavier defeat. David Moyes appeared to throw in the towel at the beginning of the season and the white flag is flying high for the red and white army. You have to feel hard for the dedicated supporters, they don’t deserve this. Defoe apart it’s like watching a deflated lower half Championship team with nothing to play for which realistically could be where Sunderland may be this time next year. I’m not sure where Moyes will be.
