Following Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over European champions Real Madrid, superlatives have been thrown around like confetti. Superb, awesome, history making. Whichever way you want to describe it, it was a jolly fine performance from a Tottenham side that oozed class and confidence.
All through the game, former Manchester United star, Ronaldo looked in total anguish as Tottenham tore them apart. Real Madrid only really got going in the last ten minutes when Ronaldo pulled one back for the visitors, but by then it was far too late.
Dele Ali gave a truly world class performance and thoroughly deserved his two goals (even though one was a massive deflection) and totally outshone Real Madrid’s talisman, Ronaldo. Harry Kane too, although failing to get on the score sheet had a massive impact on the game. Both players were watched wistfully from the stands by the Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez. This result will surely give Spurs masses of confidence for their upcoming Premier League fixtures and will not go unnoticed by the rest of Europe either.
Chelsea became the first Premier League Team to register a loss in the Champions League. Roma pretty much did to Chelsea what Tottenham did to Real Madrid with a commanding performance against the current Premier League champions.
Neither Manchester City nor Manchester United qualified conclusively but both sides won comfortably and are almost certain to progress to the knockout stages.
City need one more victory and United only a draw in their remaining fixtures to book their place in the round of 16.
