A stunning Ashley Young free kick that made his manager’s jaw drop, and an incredible solo effort by Jesse Lingard saw Manchester United defeat Arsenal 3-1 at the weekend. Both these player’s performances though were totally eclipsed by the genius that is David de Gea.
The result could have been so different for Arsene Wenger’s men who were consistently thwarted by a magnificent display by Real Madrid target, de Gea. Arsenal dominated the possession, had four times as many shots on target as the visitors, and yet still could find no way past the Spaniard.
Everton moved up to 10th in the Premier League following another fine performance against a Huddersfield team that appear to be sliding into the ignominy of the relegation zone. No Wayne Rooney hat trick or amazing halfway line goals this week but he did chip in with an assist for the young Calvert-Lewin.
Calvert-Lewin you may remember is the guy that scored the winning goal for England in the under 20 World Cup in June.
Manchester City have now won thirteen games in a row in the Premier League after beating David Moyes’s West Ham on Sunday. They did come from behind to do it though, and despite the defeat it was a much better performance from the Hammers. However, with only ten points from their first fifteen games (the worst in the club’s history) West Ham will need to start showing their new manager some real fight and determination if they want to turn their season around.
