Premier League – Sunday 15th January

Manchester United and Liverpool played out a one all draw at Old Trafford with neither side deserving victory in a fairly lackluster game.

United almost capitalized on a Lovren mistake for Liverpool with an underweighted pass that Ibrahimovic pounced upon but Mignolet managed to get to it at the same time and keep Liverpool on level terms. Paul Pogba blasted wide a minute later with a shot that went wide.

In the 27th minute Liverpool took the lead when Pogba for some bizarre reason thought he was playing basketball and handled in his own area, he was all over the place and didn’t appear to know what time of day it was. Dreadful defending for one of the most expensive signings in World history. James Milner must have thought it was Christmas come 11 months early as he blasted the perfect penalty past De Gea for 1-0.

Herreira had a wonderful 1-2 that found Mkhitaryan but his shot was well saved by Mignolet again while at the other end just before half time it was De Gea that tipped over the crossbar after a looping ball came in from the right.

In the second half United started slightly better of the two teams as Mkhitaryan had acres of space down the Liverpool flank, his cross went whizzing across the box with the world and his wife all missing it.

Wayne Rooney was on for United and Courtino came on for Liverpool and his first touch found Firmino who had a shot well saved by De Gea.

Rooney had a chance in the 64th minute to get his 250th goal for United and break Bobby Charlton’s long held record sadly Rooney fluffed his lines and his shot was tame.

Lallana and Wanaldo both had chances for Liverpool but they couldn’t find the important second goal and it was United who leveled with only 7 minutes to go. Rooney crossed a lovely ball over from the left. Fellani completely messed up a header but the ball remained in play and Valencia cut the ball back for that man Ibrahimovic to score with a direct header from six yards.

It remained 1-1 although Wanaldo had a soft shot saved and could and should have done better in injury time and the final score was about right.
